Roulette Township Cuts Hours/Lays Off Employees

Public Notice--Roulette Township
In an attempt to lower expenses, rather than increasing taxes and utility rates, the Supervisors of Roulette Township have initiated a plan to lower the highest regular expense possible by initiating a temporary, partial lay-off of all full-time personnel effective immediately and until further notice. All staff has been advised to only do what is absolutely necessary to function daily for all departments until further notice.

This will require a reduction of the hours that the township office is open to accommodate the hours available. Until further notice, the township office will be open from 8AM to 12PM, Monday through Friday. Payments may still be left in the secure drop box to the left of the front door to the building, mailed, or dropped off during open hours. All 2PM payment deadlines will be extended to 8AM the following morning during this reduction of hours. If you need to contact the office while we are closed, call 814-544-7549 and leave a message. All messages will be forwarded to someone that will listen to it, determine if it is an emergency, or something that can wait until the next business day, and deal with each circumstance accordingly.

Water / Sewer personnel will be performing the absolute bare minimum required in order to remain functional and compliant. The road crew will only be working when absolutely necessary to keep the roads maintained and passable. All projects that do not require immediate attention will be postponed until later in the season. Emergencies such as flooding, line breaks, snow plowing & cindering, water/sewer breaks and failures will be taken care of on an incident by incident basis and will be assessed accordingly.

It is not a pleasant situation for anyone involved, and is not a preferential solution, but it is one that is necessary to drastically reduce costs in as short of a period as possible. There is a possibility that the Library/Recycling hours may be directly impacted as well, but that will be announced if/when it is determined as necessary.

Sincerely,

Roulette Township Supervisors

Good job supervisors! Run the twp like it is a business. Others further up the food chain should take note.

Thanks

Austin should follow suit. Employee expenses are too high with little or no money available to fix roads or purchase needed equipment. School path lights have not been repaired in a number of years. Problem kicked down the road until council forgets about it.

Comment Above... He is a Councilman for the Boro... wow... hmm sounds funny

If YOU don't like it ... either move, cough up some money to help or shut up.

Good Job I wondered how long it could go on. We do not need all those employees. This town was run for many many years with the supervisors 1 sectuary and two employees. Its about time we scale back. Everyone has to with the economy.

RUNNING A DUMP TRUCK TO PORT TO GET A FEW CANS OF GAS OR STUFF FROM THE HARDWARE CATCHES UP WITH YOU. MOST RUNS COULD BE DONE IN A SMALL PICK UP INSTEAD OF THE DUMP TRUCK.
WE ALL HAVE TO CUT BACK -- EVEN MISTER MANY TITLE HUFF

Anonymous said...

You people are all a bunch of demented morons. You don't pay crap for taxes. And now you are going to cut what little services your residents get for what they do pay. This whole freakin' county is destined to be one big ghost town. There is nothing here.... and never will be. Really beginning to think it's time to put my house up for sale and get rid of it while I can and get out of this arm pit of the world.

Anonymous said...

Scale back? Let's see, 2 on road crew, 2 on water and sewer, 2 on office. Total, 6 employees for an entire town. What a bunch of morons.

Perhaps you should inquire as to WHY this action was taken instead of shooting your mouths off. The announcement didn't touch on that.

Oh, and by the way, the "Dump truck" doesn't make runs to Port for a couple of cans of gas. That's always done with the pick-up. If you see a Township Vehicle somewhere you don't believe it should be, take a picture with your cell phone and present it to a Supervisor. And, by the way, we HAVE to get Gas in Port. Herzog's seem to have no interest in keeping their Pacific Pride tanks topped of at their location here in town. So, the Township now has an agreement with J&J Tire in Port for gas. Secondly, the ONLY vehicle that uses gas IS the Pick-up.

There are certainly some things that can be curtailed, and practices that could be implemented that would save some money in some areas, but most of the current situation doesn't have a single thing to do with the employees or the hours they work.

As to the comment about the township "used to do it with blah, bah, blah." There's A LOT that needs to be done because it couldn't possibly have been done with the "old staffing" levels (and wasn't). We're all working on things that should have been attended to many, many, many years ago. Roads falling apart, Water and Sewer infrastructure that had NEVER been maintained properly. You can only let stuff go so long before it starts biting you in the ass. HARD.

Right now, the employees are bending over hard for their community. They are currently risking their own, and their family's livelihoods for the sake of the Township. It is not the employees that have created the current situation. We all live here, we all work here, and we all pay taxes here. I'm sure we'd all like to keep it that way. If something significant doesn't happen in the very near future, that may not be a possibility.

You've no idea whatsoever of the future implications of the current situation if a solution isn't found rather quickly.

I'm personally not going to sit back as an employee and listen to people thank the Supervisors for doing such a GREAT JOB.

Could you elaborate for us WHY this action had to be taken?

Anonymous said...

The release that was given is what was authorized. If you want to know more you will have to ask one of the supervisors. They will not answer you here.

Anonymous said...

If anyone wants to know why this happened feel free to call YOUR TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS!! and stop bitching on here. Maybe you will get the answer you want.. but if MONTHLEY meeting you might know what really needs to be taken care of

Anonymous said...

I am not at liberty to do so. You may ask a Town Supervisor.

I agree with Mike Fowler, he and his brother are the only members on the Austin Boro Council with any common sense.

Anonymous said...

"lower expenses", "rather than increasing taxes" and "utility rates "ARE YOU KIDDING !!! Our water and sewer rates are the highest in the area!!! and you have NO say over the taxes our president is taking care of them for us..lower the expenses??? QUIT BUYING UNNECESSARY SH-- !!!!!

WHERES THE DAMN MONEY????????

6 employees making $10 an hour is better than 3 employees making $15 an hour.

To post 11:22, I have seen the Green Township dump truck heading up Mill St. in Port Allegany at around 8:30 am before....what gas station is up Mill St.? I don't seem to remember there being so many problems back when there were 2-3 employees and when John Brown had the water company, he knew where the lines were and how to shut lines down when there was a leak instead of letting 70,000 gallons a day spill out into the ground for 2 weeks. Also, I have seen the Red Township pick-up in Port Allegany at 5 pm on a Sunday night....what could it possibly be doing there? This is a good move by the Supervisors, they need to scale back to only 2-3 employees, no reason little Roulette needs to have all 6 full time employees, especially when they are all usually sitting at the Township building.

Layed off but there still out there plowing blacktop that has no snow on it come on they need to grow a back bone and tell the one preson he doesnt no how to plow or salt

Anonymous said...

people better fix this problem soon . there has not been any real work done on roads or drainage in years and its gonna catch up to us soon

Anonymous said...

if i worked for the Roulette Township I wouls STOP PLOWING...STOP WORRYING ABOUT THEIR DAMN DRINKING WATER....and stay at home and collect my unemployment and let them unappreciative people who live there ROT !!! thats why Zito media did what they did with the tv cable...Roulette residents were the "worst complainers" and the decided not to deal with them..AS THEY DESERVE.....

Anonymous said...

9:23:00am Why dont YOU grow some ba--- and tell that one person he doesnt know how to plow or salt?? WOW your brave...Mr. Anonymous ha

Thank you to all the employees at the Roulette Township. How you tolerate all the ignorant people that live in that town,I'll never know, but Im glad you do . Keep up the good work guys! There are a few of us who appreciate what you do.

"Also, I have seen the Red Township pick-up in Port Allegany at 5 pm on a Sunday night."

As the person that drives that truck, I can unequivocally say that you must be mistaken. That truck is NEVER used for personal business. If you indeed saw it out on a Sunday evening, then someone was operating it without authorization. That truck is used specifically for Township business only during normal working hours unless a piece of equipment breaks down or there is an emergency. There are two people who drive the truck regularly and NEITHER of them would even think about using it for personal business.

Neither of us drive the Green Dump, so we have no idea whatsoever of where it's going or where it's been.

Again, a picture is worth a thousand words. Currently, the Supervisors will only accept a picture as proof.

OH MY AND JUST A SHORT TIME AGAIN DURING HOWDIE SMITH ERA THE ROULETTE TOWNSHIP WAS THE RICHEST TOWNSHIP IN THE STATE..HE GUARDED THE TOWNSHIP MONEY LIKE HE DID HIS OWN

Anonymous said...

Yes I was told Roulette was one of the richest townships too. Hmmm something smells fishy???

Since when is Jon Huff a township supervisor? I just read it in the paper? why dont you just give him complete control of the town ?? He thinks he owns it anyway. Who voted him in?? anyone know??

Anonymous said...

WHERES THE MONEY?? NO SERVICE THEN I VOTE NO TAXES!!!!!

Anonymous said...

For the person that thinks austin only has 2 people on the counical with any common sence you need to come to the meeting they are held first mon.of the mounth.YOU CAN SEE FOR YOUESELF .

Anonymous said...

Its funny about the austin comment because if you actually look at votes on major topics that need a roll call the brothers usually don't agree...!!!

Listen if anybody in thesr towns/twp think they can walk in and turn it around then get on the ballot.. you will see that it wont tae a one month turn around... you will see that if a town/twp is in a mess it will take a lot of planning to pull them out.... it will take people to be on same page.

Keating twp for one, a business man took it ovet and is running it like a business... which is great... in austin you see that it takes x amount of money to run something but they only charge x-y to the people... sooner or later you will lose or be in a huge dilemma like austin is right now.
And I know there are 7 people on council and only 2 are on same adgenda, 1 is a yes man to another, one is radical, 1 is an asshole, 1 does try but has been running the boro with no help for years that he is now trying to find his place and he is really an assest to the town... o and the mayor just needs to not talk nor be seen in public....

But yes first monday of month and I do know I am going to start comming to meetings again.

Ha looks like I will be plow my road lol

Zitomedia just upgraded the roulette town so that they are able to get HD channels. Where is that "not dealing with them"?

Merle said...

That's cause Roulette Township now has 10 employees, has bought every new piece of equipment possible, and paid Gustin's Auto more money to fix that equipment than what its worth cause no one knows how to use said equipment.

Jonathan Huff said...

If that is what the paper printed, they were wrong. I am not, have never been, and have never claimed to be one. They asked for an interview and I referred them to the supervisors.

Anonymous said...

Right on Merle. Now we have all the new equiptment etc Conputers and no one to run or use them. But on the other hand WHERE were all the people at the township meetings to object the buying and spending all the money??????? Anyone that attended the meeting could see this comming a long time ago. The supervisors are good guys but they need to say NO to alot of the unnessary spending. It seems they can,t say no to a certain person.

Anonymous said...

we have needed a change in leadership in roulette township for last few years. seems like supervisors r letting one person run things and do what ever he wants cause he has them over a barrel and they know it and he knows it, wake up supervisors kick ur self in the ass and dont worry about rocking the boat its time to realize whats going on in this township and if u cant see this get out of there and let someone else do the job our. twp. is a real joke. yea back in the howdy smith days there wasnt this kind of bullshit going on. if u cant run twp.like a business the twp. will continue to get worse. i have seen township trucks in port allegany at the sheetz with 2 guys in it drinking coffee several times. in the past. i guess the supers have no control over these guys. wake up supervisors. time to clean house or move out.

Anonymous said...

dont do any good to go to twp.meetings if they dont like ur questions or dont like what ur talking about they either change the subject or by pass it some how. go see for ur self.

OMG... I do not live in Roulette but everything that I have read sounds pretty close to what's starting to happen in the Genesee Township. I don't know if Roulette has the same TOTALLY SCREWED UP TAXES that they have. I do know that Genesee Township was just hit with another tax to help the fire department .... not a problem ... they put their lives on the line to make sure that everyone is safe... The other taxes that are in place are that of a big city. Genesee doesn't have that type of income to be taxed either. At least not like that. They used to only have a bare boned crew to do all of the work. Never had a problem getting things done... Now there are extra trucks sitting in the lot... roads are great if you have the money to hand them for a little extra donation. Same problem with "yellow motel on wheels that sleeps 4-6 ppl." Unnecessary running around... Supervisor standing/riding a round while someone is doing the work with a cheering squad rooting them on.

Anonymous said...

Well as for the control the supervisors they know where the problem lies and its up to them to deal with it .. as for where is the tax money... maybe if some of the dead beats in this town PAID their taxed there would be money did you ever think of that.. if you have so much time to jugde how things are done, then put your money where your mouth is .. I bet you dont have the back bone or Money to fill that mouth anyhow... HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

Anonymous said...

So what your saying 8:13 is that the people who named themselves in this blog, aren't paying their taxes, so they have no right to complain? At least they named themselves.
