Woman Drowns After Car Overturns Into Creek

A Port Allegany woman drowned early Monday morning after the car she in which she was a passenger, overturned into a creek after striking a metal bridge rail along Fogel Crossing Road, just east of Combs Creek Road in Liberty Township, McKean County.

Emily Schena, 21, of Port Allegany, PA, a passenger in a 2004 Grand Prix, was unable to free herself from the submerged vehicle and drowned in the creek that was flowing strong and high due to recent melting snow.

Emily Schultz, 21, of Port Allegany, PA, the driver, was able to free herself and walked to a nearby home where residents were able to call 911 to summon help from Port Allegany Fire Rescue and Ambulance personnel. She was transported to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the 1:30 AM crash.

Corporal Julock fo the Kane PSP barracks who investigated the crash said the one vehicle crash occurred when Schultz lost control of the car which traveled off the roadway to the south where it struck a metal bridge rail and then overturned onto it's roof into the stream. Both women were wearing seat belts. Schultz was able to free herself from the vehicle. Schena could not and drowned.

After the Port Allegany Fire Department arrived on scene and a tow truck, the vehicle was lifted from the stream. Schena was then taken out of the vehicle and transported to Charles Cole Hospital by Port Allegany Ambulance, where she was pronounced deceased, after efforts by EMS ambulance and hospital personnel  failed to revive her.

Corporal Julock said the crash is still under investigation. Port Allegany Fire Dept., Port Allegany Amnbulance, and McKean County District Attorney assisted at the scene.

So very sad. Cannot imagine what the family is going through. Probably returning home from a work shift perhaps in Bradford or Coudersport. May God's comfort envelop all who are affected.

She was an amazing person to be around and to work with. I only knew her for a short while, but it was well enough to know she was a pleasant person and will be missed terribly.
