8 Year Old Killed In Head On Crash On East Valley Road

An 8 year old Shinglehouse boy was killed and two drivers seriously injured Friday afternoon in a two vehicle head on crash on East Valley Road in Keating Township, McKean County.

The 8 year old was a passenger in a 1995 Chevrolet Tracker driven by Steven P. Mehl, 29, of Shinglehouse, PA. Police did not identify the child because he was a juvenile.  Steven Mehl was transported by ambulance to Bradford Regional Medical Center and then to Erie due to the severity of his injuries.

Tieler R. Raymo, 20, of Smethport, PA, driver of a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban 2500, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Olean General Hospital by Ambulance.

Trooper Michael Julock, in a news release, said the fatal crash occurred at 3:25 PM when Raymo was traveling northbound and Mehl was traveling southbound on East Valley Road, about a half mile west of Kent Hollow Road.

As Raymo crested a small hill between Kent Hollow and Pierce Brook Road, he lost control of his Chevrolet Suburban which traveled across the roadway and struck Mehl's Tracker head on.

The Suburban continued traveling off of the roadway to the east striking a wooden fence and coming to rest in a field to the east of the roadway.

Mehl's Tracker was shoved to the north on the roadway, coming to rest in the middle of the road.

The 8 year old was transported to Bradford Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Assisting at the scene were Smethport Police Dept., Smethport Volunteer Fire Department, Smethport Ambulance, Port Allegany Ambulance, McKean County District Attorney, and Troop C CARS unit.

The investigation is ongoing.

It's so, so sad about the little boy, may he rest in peace. The drivers, both of them, I hope and pray will make a full recovery after this horrible accident. I'm also praying for the families, the little boy and his father's family of course, but also the driver of the other vehicle's family as well as the driver, I hope all of them make it through this. Accidents can change everything in the blink of an eye, it's frightening how life works that way.

Our prayers and thoughts are with all the families here. We know the Mehl family and know they are always there for each other. God works in mysterious ways His wonders to perform and I know He is already working His miracles on Steve and the other driver. The young boy is now resting in Jesus's arms. Peace to all throughout this ordeal.

Our thoughts and Prayers go out to Steven and his wife and the entire Mehl family. I suppose God needed another Little Angel. My heart goes out to everyone involved. I have never lost a child, so I can only hope and pray that God gives them the strength to deal with such a loss. Thinking of you All!
