Ira B. Smades, 87, of 39 Abbott Road, Bradford, PA

Ira B. Smades, 87, of 39 Abbott Road, Bradford, PA, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 surrounded by his loving family, at The Pavilion at BRMC.

Born March 30, 1925 in Bradford he was a son of the late Concetta (Balbo) Thomson and Ira B. Smades, Sr. He was a 1943 graduate of Bradford High School.

On June 29, 1943 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in Europe and Africa, he was honorably discharged on February 23, 1946.

On June 7, 1945 at Bradford he married Josephine (Yoke) Smades who survives him.

He worked as a self employed Painting Contractor for over 60 years in the Bradford area. He was a member of St. Bernard Church, member, past president, and served on the board of directors at the Pine Acres Golf Course, was member of the K of C council 403, and the Bradford Exchange Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter, Tina (Nick) Pansic, of Chicago IL, two sons, Ira P. (Penny) Smades, of Limerick and Joel M. (Katie) Smades, of Clearwater FL, seven grandchildren; Michael Smades, Eric Smades, Sam Smades, Sidney Smades, Olivia Smades, Aaron Gette, and Heidi Blessing. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Lisa Smades.

Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday February 6, 2013 from 2-4 pm & 6-8pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main St., where a prayer service will be held on Thursday at 9:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bernard Church with Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor as Celebrant. Military honors will be accorded after the Mass at church. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to charity of the donor's choice.
