John Stiles, 94, of 13 Blaisdall Ave. Bradford, PA

John Stiles, 94, of 13 Blaisdall Ave. Bradford, passed away, Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born in Kane, on March 26, 1918 he was a son of the late Ray and Carrie (Foulkrod) Stiles.

On June 26, 1948 in East Kane, he married Florence E. (Rutledge) Stiles, who died on February 21, 2011.

Mr. Stiles was a 1936 graduate of Elkhart High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on April 12, 1940, served during WW II where he received the American Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on August 23, 1945.

He returned from the service, and began working at Sergeant Glass Company. In 1950 he started working at Dresser Manufacturing in Bradford and retired after thirty years of service in 1980.

He attended the First United Methodist Church, was a member of the Bradford Bowling Association and bowled in many Bradford City Leagues, and was a former member of the Hanley Horseshoe League. He also had been involved in the Bradford Little League Baseball for many years. He had umpired for the league and had managed the Red Sox team. He had donated well over 100 pints of blood to the American Red Cross.

Surviving is a son, Paul R. (Carol) Stiles, of Las Vegas, one granddaughter, Amber (John) McKindley, three great grandchildren, Callie McKindley, Camryn McKindley and Liam McKindley, two sisters Helen Steinfurth of CO. and Iva Discepolo of CT, two half sisters, Joyce Lingaton of Bradford and Deloras Timpano of Kane. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, three sisters and four brothers.

Family will be receiving friends on Friday, March 1, 2013, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Ave., where funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, with Rev. Max Miller pastor of the Bradford Area Parish, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded in the funeral home after the service. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.
