Nate Brookens Update

Nate Brookens Update
I am sending this update because it seems appropriate. Nate has come a long way. These pictures show WHAT GOD CAN DO when we invite Him, The Liberating God, into the confinements of our reality. To Him be all the praise! And to our friends, we give the thanks for your prayers, your encouragement, your gifts, your loving support throughout this first phase of Nate’s recovery. We are counting on you as we head into this next phase in a long-term facility (and hopefully, not that long!).

After an unexpected delay last week, Nate is finally moving on to Hunter Holmes McGuire V.A. Hospital in Richmond, VA, as we speak. He left Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh within the last hour - approximately 9:00AM, by ambulance with his Mom, Beth, and sister, Liz, following behind. The photo of the three of them was taken just moments before he left Mercy today. Beth reported that many of the staff and therapists came into his room to say a tearful “Good-bye.” They said they will always remember Room 6018 as “Nate’s Room,” and talked about putting up a plaque to that effect! : )

The next phase of Nate’s recovery is what we are calling his “Last Stop Before Home.” Home is The Goal. That day cannot come soon enough. But we are amazed at how our Great God works, and how He has ordained this location for Nate’s continued therapy and treatment. We have no doubt that this is THE very BEST place for Nate to be. We will post his new address when we know what it is.

The first photo was taken two days after his accident, Aug. 27, 2012. Let these pictures demonstrate just WHAT GOD HATH WROUGHT!

I cannot say enough for the manner in which my daughter, Beth, has handled this horrific near-tragedy. With grace and faith, she has forged through overwhelming emotion, financial issues, caring for her younger children, going back to work full time, visiting Nate every weekend, along with all of life's craziness, grappling with legal issues... Let me tell you, nobody will ever know. She is the true heroin in my eyes! I am so very proud of her. Yet it is the Lord that has sustained her through it all. He is an Awesome God!

Well said, 3:55. Nate has worked hard and persevered valiantly over and over again. Anytime I have had the privilege of watching him in therapy, he has never once balked or failed to participate, no matter how difficult the challenge. He has a winner mentality!

Wonder why god let him get hurt to begin with?

To prove us, test us and help us grow. Jesus suffered and was tempted in every way that we are so he can mediate, relate to and understand us.
Though suffering isn't good, God can use it to accomplish good. God can use our suffering to draw us to himself, to mold and sharpen our character, to influence others for Him. He can draw something good from our pain in numerous ways if we trust and follow Him.
Gods plans are difficult for us to understand but one day Nate's family will look back at all of this, cognizant of His plan, and thank Him for what he did for them all.
Hopefully others are watching this story and will find God through it instead of having to suffer themselves.

Well said, Jason! And 9:56, you ask a valid question. No one can answer that fully. Surely, as Jason has said, God does have a Plan, and a Great one. God's ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than ours. Do we like these horrific events to happen? No Way. Never would we have wanted this if we had the choice. This has been one deep valley. One day a book will be written. But what I DO know is that our God has been with us every painful step. We have seen Him provide everything we needed to make it through. Starting with Nate's buddy, Koty, who at the very scene of the accident, literally saved Nate's life, by taking quick action that he was trained to do in such events. I do not have time or space to tell of how we have seen the faithfulness of God over and over again. We may never know all of the "Why" until we see Him in Glory, but we do know He has kept His promises, never to leave us or forsake us. No matter what. Even if we had lost Nate - God forbid - God would be there for us. We are soooo thankful Nate is still with us, and we have not even begun to see how God will use this to bless many other people, including Nate. Look what miracles have occurred in just 6 months! Awesome.
