Preparations Made For 2013 Farmers' Market In Coudersport

2013 Farmers' Market in Coudersport
to Start May 24th at New Location
A change in location to better serve customers and vendors is planned by organizers of the Potter County Farmers’ Market. We’re planning to set up every Friday beginning May 24 on Route 6 in downtown Coudersport but we’re opting to move one block to the east to the county-owned lot on the corner of North East and East Second Streets, across from the Potter County Jail. We think this location will allow easier access for customers, less traffic noise and congestion and a more convenient location for loading and unloading.

The Potter County Farmers’ Market is organized by a group of local farmers as an outlet to market local products. While consumer interest in local foods has increased in recent years, many are still not aware of the availability of naturally-grown and organic produce in the area. We were pleased with the response from the community to our market last year and we’re looking for additional participating vendors this year.

New guidelines for participation were enacted last year and will remain in effect this year. According to the guidelines, vendors must be farmers (the term “farmer” means actively engaged in the production of fruits, honey, maple syrup, vegetables, eggs, plants, crops, trees, fiber or livestock, poultry and fish) and/or must be engaged in producing products such as baked goods, prepared foods, jams/jellies/candies or craft items in their homes or businesses. Vendors are eligible to participate in the Potter County Farmers’ Market if their farm or business is located within 50 miles of Coudersport.

Any interested farmer is encouraged to contact Jane Metzger via email at or by telephone at 814-274-8004 for additional information and an application for participation.

The Potter County Farmers’ Market will be held on Fridays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. beginning May 24 and continuing through early October.

Some Saturday sales are planned including limited participation during the Potter-Tioga Maple Festival, Memorial Day weekend, God’s Country Marathon weekend, Independence Day weekend, Woodsmen’s Show/Archery Show weekend, Labor Day weekend and the Falling Leaves Festival. Saturday hours will be 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

To bad the hours are not friendly for the folks who do not work/live in Coudersport. I would love for the hours to be every Saturday for a few hours. Don’t get me wrong I know the farmers have to farm but not everyone can get to Coudy on by 5 on a Friday.

Why not the large parking lot behind McD's?
