Born December 8, 1930 in Vandergrift, Pa. He was the son of the late Richard P. and Zora (Wolford) Young. He was a 1948 graduate of the Otto Township High School.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and served in Subic Bay, Philippines and Midway Island. His honorable discharge was in 1955.
On September 14, 1957 in St. Bernard Church, he married Paula M. (Villott) Young who died May 24, 1999. On June 7, 2003 in Allegany State Park he married Doris (Chitester-Bolster) Young who survives him.
After the service he returned to Bradford and worked at Oliver and Loveland Oil Company, the Bradford Airport as a clerk, then at Bovaird & Seafang Company, which later became Dresser Clark, from where he retired in 1986 as a cost accountant. He later worked for 10 years as an accountant for CEMP.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Duke Center Masonic Lodge #555 F&AM, the McKean County Rifle Club, and the YMCA. Mr. Young had a great love for being outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, leather tooling, bowling, and playing poker. He along with his brother-in-law Allan Jones started the Zoe Street Boat Works and spent many long hours restoring wooden boats.
Surviving in addition to his wife, is one daughter, Tracy A. (Brian) Healy of Atlanta GA, one son, Michael J. (Barbara) Young, of Pittsburgh, four grandchildren; Dylan Young, Tyler Young, Zachary Young and Brock Healy, three step children; Dana (Al) Madison of Pittsburgh, Jill (Rick) Cottillion of Bradford, and Douglas (Anjie) Bolster of Chicago IL, six step grandchildren; Ben Madison, Nick Madison, Ryan Cottillion, Ethan Bolster, Olivia Bolster and Isaac Bolster, two sisters; Bea (Ron) Farrell of S. Dayton NY, and Helen Vanderfinn of Ione, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday February 12, 2013 from 3-5pm & 7-9pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main St. and again on Wednesday from 10am to 11am in the First United Methodist Church, at which time funeral and committal services will be held with Rev. Tom Verner pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Paula M. Young Memorial Fund @ BRMC or the First United Methodist Church, or a charity of the donor's choice.
