Robert F. Smith, 85, of Prentisvale Rd., Eldred, PA

Robert F. Smith, 85, of Prentisvale Rd., Eldred, PA, passed away Tuesday (February 12, 2013) at the Hamot Medical Center in Erie following an apparent stroke.

Born September 4th, 1927 in Brookville he was a son of Ralph and Louisa Kunselmen Smith. On November 26th, 1949 in Olean he married Nancy Jane Parsons, who survives.

Bob was a graduate of Portville, NY High School. He had resided in Portville before moving to Prentisvale in 1960.

Mr. Smith was a veteran of WWII having served as an electrician on the U.S.S. Whiteside in the Pacific Theater. In 1951 he began to work at Clark Brothers in Olean where he was employed as a machinist for many years, retiring after 35 years from the then Dresser Industries as foreman in the receiving department.

Bob was a member of the Rixford Evangelical Church where he was a deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Otto Twp. Lion’s Club where he was a past treasurer.

He enjoyed word puzzles and hunting.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Gregory Smith of Houston, TX, and Terry Smith of Prentisvale; one sister, Janet Beck of Weedville, PA.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Walker.

A memorial service will be held Saturday (February 16th, 2013) at the Rixford Evangelical Church at 1pm with the Rev. Norm Cox officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
