A Shinglehouse girl was uninjured when her 2006 Dodge Dakota lost traction and went off Route 44 south of Coons Crossing Road at 8:50 Tuesday morning.
Kali M. Gross, 16, of Shinglehouse, PA, was traveling norhtbound in the right lane of Rt. 44, negotiating a slight left curve, when the rear tires broke traction causing the vehicle to begin rotating counterclockwise. It then left it's travel lane, crossing the double center lines, and southbound lane of travel where it began climbing the embankment where it impacted a concrete culvert with it's right front. The vehicle continued traveling north crossing Rt. 44 again and coming to final rest in the northbound lane completely blocking it.
Gross was wearing her seat belt and was not hurt. Trooper Andrew Brothers cited her for Driving On Roadways Laned for Traffic.
Shinglehouse Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Glad she's okay.. but.. If the roads were crap - which they WERE this morning, and she lost traction because of the road conditions, which can happen to anyone, why was she cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic? OBVIOUSLY she is not going to signal and move to a different lane safely when she lost traction and had an accident on roads that are so slippery. I am sure she learned her lesson, why cite her? It just does not seem like that is the intent of that statute.
Rt 44 from Shinglehouse to NYS line is 4 miles of danger. The road surface is horrible, the lines are almost gone, and it isn't maintained well enough by Penn Dot. The section where she skidded is shaded all the time by the hill and trees and is off camber when travelling north.
I FEEL SO SORRY FOR HER THIS IS THE EXACT SAME SPOT I LOST CONTROLL OF MY CAR AND TOTALED IT..tHE ROAD IS VERY UNSAFE AND IS IN NEED OF SOME SEIOUS ATTENTION...WHEN I WRECKED MY CAR THE ROADS WERE CLEAR.....iT IS JUST THE ROADWAY IT IS VERY UNSAFE FOR TRAVEL....WE LOVE YOU AND ARE GLAD YOU ARE ALRIGHT!
