The Austin Borough Police is asking for the public's help

The Austin Borough Police
is asking for the public's help

Sometime Thursday, February 21st. 2013 from 6pm-8pm an unknown actor or actors had used electrical tape to tie a young dogs mouth shut. Also in the act the person had also tied the dogs back legs. The young dog was located at the Austin School this morning just before the arrival of the students. The dog is ok. He is a little scared and cold from being out all night. He has been to the vet and checked out and is currently being housed at Teacher's Pet Rescue until such interviews are conducted. We would like to close this case quickly as possible as to return the dog to its owners and prosecute the ones that are involved in this han-us act. The Austin Police are being assisted by the Pennsylvania Humane Officer and the Potter County DA's office.

This is the basic information concerning this case.

I am asking the public for any information that would be pertinent to this case to please contact the Austin Borough Police 647-8613

Thanks
Chief Kyle B.Day
Austin Borough Police

I hope they find who did this. I also hope that anyone with knowledge about this crime will come forward and speak sense the innocent puppy can't do so for himself!!! Please help this puppy return to his family where he belongs and punish such a sick and twisted individual.

When we do find out who did this they should get the same treatment and see if they like it. I hope they get good punishment.

What is wrong with our world today!!

When they catch this person or persons, strip them, duct tape their mouth, hands and legs and tie them to a tree and leave them a few days in sub-zero temps.

*heinous....close though, nice try.

I agree, an eye for an eye. Maybe they won't think it is quite so funny then, they will think twice before considering doing something so stupid again.

It's Austin what can you say? Some people shouldn't have animals. Other people let theirs run around free.

What is wrong with the world today? It is not the world, it is the way some people chose to live! It sure is much different than when I was growing up,so much more heinous & unbelievable crimes happening! I sure do hope & pray they catch th heartless person or persons who did this, It makes me sick, animals have feelings as well as we do, I'm so happy to know the little guy is o.k. They need to have done to them exactly what they did to the poor little dog!

Think about it, 99% of people who kill people were cruel to animals sometime in their miserable life. I pray they find out who this jerk or jerks are & throw the book at them, no matter their age. So happy the dog didn't die.

I agree with ya 11:35!

Id like to see where you get your statistics. Or is this some imaginary figure you made up to soothe yourself? 100% of people that kill people are idiots. (unless its war) So lets either ban animals or ban idiots. What do you think?

two sides of a story bark bark bark.

This seems like it would have been someone who has electric service and is able to bend over to get to the hind legs of a dog. In Austin, that should significantly narrow down the list of potential suspects. I can't believe that the Austin CSI team didn't run the prints and DNA from the tape through the crime lab and have the suspect tracked down in within the hour like on TV.

In response to the comment "Its Austin". You are wrong there are lots of GOOD people who live in Austin. You will find sick people wherever you go. If you look in your own neighborhood you will see that. I don't live in Austin but don't like the trashing of this town. It doesn't have anything to do with what town it is, this is a terrible crime. I sure hope the sick people or person that did this is caught and punished to the fullest extent. Glad the poor little dog is okay.

ok, how do they know it happened between 6 and 8pm? the dog wasn't found until the next morning. It could have happened at any time during the night.

I'm sure the world hasn't become any more disturbed than it was a 100 years ago...we just didn't hear about the sick things people did back then. Either the victims were too scared/ashamed to say anything, or the news never made it to our ears. Technology has opened our eyes to a whole new world. Unfortunately a LOT of it is disturbing and disheartening. What's worse is that it's probably on youtube.

Fellow in Chester County shot and killed two neighbor dogs.People in the big city are getting a taste of what we deal with on a daily basis.People do whatever they want and if we don't like it tough. It is a fact that humans practice their evil first against beings that have no power as a stepping stone to escalate their deviance. When a dog is seen in the eyes of the law as nothing more than a mailbox or other piece of property,it encourages the deviants.Harming a living creature is not the same as bashing a mailbox and until those of us who respect ALL living beings demand a change we will be left with what we have.

That is a wonderful idea but it depends on who this person was! If they have ties to a school board member or another member of the school it will be swept under the rug just like it always is!

My guess is that the feckless oaf who did this hanus act was probably a kid and probably a bully besides. If it was a child I do not think we should over-react but I agree totally with Kyle that it was totally hanus. If they do find the dildine who did this I would suggest he be made to see a councilor so we can determine if maybe he is socially unadjusted. Maybe that will turn things around.

Some of these comments on here just make me sick. First Thank you Englich Teacher (Post8:40) for the correct Spelling, aren't you just SO smart. Second, Ban this, Post 7:24. It said, if you can read, people who are cruel to animals usually end up killing people, what ever the persentage, idiot! And thirdly 7:54 barking or not, YOU DON'T DO THIS TO ANY ANIMAL. Speak up & call the police if it bothers you. And lastly, I am so dam sick of Austin getting bashed everytime anything happens. Le't just blame the town. Ha! Move if you don't like it here. Catch these cruel, cruel, brainless perts!!!

You have no idea what go's on here in Austin! Not long ago there was a former council member shooting animals that came on his land right in town! Also a couple trapping cats and taking them out of town and turning them loose! Even their neighbors house pets because they came in the yard! Dogs running free all the time it gets scary trying to take a walk without the fear of getting attacked!

Anonymous said...

hum I've been thinking about this story an here is my two cents.. They taped the dogs mouth shut. they tied it's legs together.. So I"m thinking now, was it done for the owners sake? Is the dog barking all the time? an is this dog running lose all the time. I understand the dog was found at the school, Did it walk there or was it dropped off knowing someone would find it. Just my two cents..

To Andy - thank you so much for helping to get a reward started to catch this person. The family is so appreciative of this gesture.

To post 1:12 - doesn't matter if the dog barked or not what this person did was horrible!! And to answer your question - No the dog doesn't run around like others in town. When the door was opened to put him on the leash he took off.

Some people are just so ignorant with their comments.

u might want to find out who left the comment at 7:54:00. i was told duke had tape around his mouth and this moron says "bark bark bark"? hmm... looks suspicious to me.

I agree that this act should have never happened and the people responsible should be punished. However why is it that so many other crimes that are equal to or worse than this get pushed aside. Why doesn't the chief of police care about all the crimes committed in the borough of Austin. Seems to me if Officer Day doesn't like you, crimes against you do not matter to him to all. If you happen to be born and raised in Austin you get a free pass to beat your wife, and abuse your kids, and if you report it, it gets swept under the rug. Then people wonder why women do not report abuse, Officer Day is a key example why women deal with husbands that beat them, because when the abuse is reported the cops just do not care!!!

Its "percentage" if you want to get all technical and run your mouth about brains.

Anonymous said...

Kyle, come bad to Williamsport where you are appreciated.

Anonymous said...

Post 7:24, thank you for yet another spelling lesson ! You are so smart, aren't you? Blahahaha! And Post 5:54, if your abused & Officer Day didn't do anything about it, may I suggest you go higher up, or leave the A-HOLE !

Wow this is a sad story. Hope that they find the person who did this. If its a kid, they need to get him/her serious mental help. People who abuse animals like this are usually sociopaths and are killers. So be careful out there guys.

Chief Scott A. Shutt said...

Chief Day I hope you find the actor or actors and arrest them and the courts set an example that this kind of cruelty will not be tolerated.

Kyle Day I thought he worked in Port

It's spelled heinous not hanus.

I totally agree with almost every comment posted on here, this is such a horrible and sick thing to do to an animal, and the person who did it deserves the same treatment. But to say "It's Austin, what do you expect?" YOU FIND THE SAME KIND OF ACTS IN EVERY OTHER TOWN. There are tons of good people in this town that would never do such a thing. Unfortunatley, there is one. But it's not just Austin that has these kinds of situations, so get your facts straight.
