DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — It's all about the odds, and one single ticket in Florida has beaten them all by matching the numbers drawn for the highest Powerball jackpot in history at an estimated $590.5 million, lottery officials disclosed Sunday.

The lone winner was sold at a Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills, Fla., according to Florida Lottery executive Cindy O'Connell. She told The Associated Press by telephone that more details would be released later.

I think it is ridiculous how the Lottery is played. Why can't they divide it up more, some how & have multipal winners, some how!! That amout of money to ONE person just seems stupid. They will surely NEVER spend it all, nor will their relatives. I'm not jealous, cause I don't even play. But how it workd seems dumb to me! Can someone explain this?

yes 10:43 there are plenty of winners in the powerball game. You don't have to get all the numbers right to win a prize.Take for instance the person from St.Marys whom just won two million by matching all five white balls. But didn't have the powerball. You win between three and fifteen dollars on average by just only getting the powerball.Depending on if you purchase power play for an extra dollar. There also could've been two big winners if they both had winning numbers then they would split the jackpot in half.Overall its a huge ripoff and your better off saving that money for gas or groceries. But part of the appeal is that the jackpot grows to be that big.If the rumors are true the 23 yr old women from Florida whom works at Walmart for ten bucks per hour is going to be a very rich woman.
