Why have there been so many accidents in this area recently????

They raised the speed limit!! Now everyone has to go faster than the new speed limit which is 70!

Maybe PSP will notice and operate radar in these areas.

There have been a large number of accidents on this road for a while, even well before the speed limit was raised. Are people distracted from the views from the road? As in gawking and enjoying the beauty of this part of PA and losing control? This is a major N/S route with many out of state travelers taking in the views that this road provides. I'm sure that this road was built to the standards of all federal interstates since it will be the future I-99. The curves are built to a minimum radii, the grades are regulated, I'm sure that both berms are to the federal standard of 10'. Hopefully they can figure this out soon. Is PENNDOT following up on this? Unfortunately, if the accidents aren't in the exact spot on the highway it won't raise any red flags in their system. We had a local section of road with an inordinate amount of accidents. The local elected officials were the ones who pushed for the change as PENNDOT kept making excuses as to why there were 9 accidents there in an 18 month period. Not counting the many accidents that occurred there over the last 50+ years. They blamed everything but the real issue, which was the design of their road. It was below the minimum standard required for sight distance. Fortunately, there were no fatalities there but many, many serious injuries before the road was changed to increase the sight distances required. Since then, (14 years ago) there have been only two minor fender benders.
So possibly on SR 15, there may need to be some local involvement to help identify and fix this problem. These accidents not only cause human suffering and monetary damage, but they also tax the local EMS providers.
