An Open letter to the Galeton community, faculty, staff, and alumni

Dear friends and community members,

I’d like to take this opportunity to make you aware of the needs of a former faculty member, Mr. Tim Clifton. Tim taught Biology and Life Science at Galeton Area School District for over 30 years. After this time, he felt it was necessary to move to Clendenin, WV due to family concerns. They have lived in that area for several years now.

The torrential rains that came at the end of June flooded their house and surrounding area. They did not have flood insurance and FEMA only covers a part of the damage. They have exhausted all financial resources and are still far from finished, cleaning up and restructuring the house and its furnishings.

I am appealing to the good will and generosity of the Galeton community to reach out and help Mr. Clifton. If you are a former student, you will remember the exuberance and vitality he put into his teaching. Who can forget the trips to Hawk Mountain, the field trips to stock trout, the dissections of road kill, and the ‘animal expert’ reports that were a part of your learning process? Remember his corny jokes and his brownie or cookie rewards for correct answers as you reviewed for tests? Mr. Clifton was a part of your educational experience at Galeton—now can you reach
out and help him in return?

If you wish to help, here is a list of material needs:

Drywall with screws and mud, foam insulation, white latex paint with rollers etc., Mold spray other than Clorox. 2 tall toilets, 1 deep tub, white bathroom paneling, 2 bathroom sinks with cabinets, ceiling fan, 6 various kitchen cabinets including sink, with top that matches the top, gas stove, small air conditioner, dehumidifier, pine boards to make shelves, dishwasher, molding, door frames, doors. Beds, dressers, or other furniture items are needed as well.

If you cannot donate supplies, perhaps a monetary donation would work best from our area. Tim says he can use:

Lowes or Home Depot gifts cards; Walmart and Kroger gift cards; or contact the Youcaring site he has set up:

Feel free to contact him with any questions you might have. I know he would love to hear from anyone in the Galeton area.

Email address is

Mailing address is 11300 Elk River Rd. N., Clendenin, WV 25045

Home phone is 304 548-3024.

Thank you so much!

Darlene Forsythe,
retired Galeton teacher
