WELLSBORO—The annual picnic, co-hosted by Relay For Life of Tioga County cancer survivors and the Coping with Cancer Support Group is Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the upper picnic pavilion at Woodland Park on Bryden Street in Wellsboro.

"A flyer given to cancer survivors during the July 16 Relay For Life Of Tioga County 12-hour event on The Green in Wellsboro listed the wrong date for the picnic," said Sonee Gleason, Relay Survivorship co-chair. "The correct date is Wednesday, Aug. 17."

The picnic is an informal social event for Tioga County cancer survivors and Coping with Cancer Support Group members and as well as their families.

Those interested in attending future Coping with Cancer meetings or registering with the American Cancer Society as a cancer survivor are also welcome to attend the picnic.

The annual picnic was begun to provide cancer patients and their families with the opportunity to network. It also serves to let cancer patients know about both the Coping with Cancer Support Group and the emphasis on survivorship on a year-round basis by the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

Bring a dish to pass. Table service and beverages will be provided.

Attending the picnic will be Relay Survivor Co-chairs Sonee Gleason and Robert J. Blair, and Cyndi Compton, a licensed master social worker with the hospital who facilitates the Coping with Cancer meetings. Also attending will be Terri-Ann Kohler, a surgical nurse, who assists at the support group meetings.

Coping with Cancer meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro. The meetings are free and open to anyone who has been affected by cancer and their loved ones. The support group addresses a wide variety of topics related to cancer and its treatment.

For information about the Aug. 17 picnic, including suggestions about what to bring or to make reservations to attend, call Cyndi Compton at 570-439-1017, Sonee Gleason at 1-585-203-4728 or Robert J. Blair at 570-724-5343. "We would appreciate it if people would make reservations to help us with picnic plans," Gleason said.
