Thank You for Coming!
We had another great turnout at the
2016 Bradford Senior Citizens Expo earlier this month. I want to thank
the senior citizens, their family members and caregivers, as well as all
of the exhibitors and our volunteers for making the event a great
success. If you missed out on the Bradford Expo, just mark your
calendars because we have two more coming up. The first will be on Friday, Sept. 16, at the Kane Community Center and then on Friday, Oct. 7, at the Roulette Fire Hall. Both events will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., are free to attend and offer a free lunch.

Fighting Back Against Drug Abuse
In an effort to fight drug abuse and
specifically the ongoing opioid and heroin crisis, a statewide database
is now online to allow practitioners to better monitor prescription
drug abuse and detect possible abuse or fraud. The database was
authorized through Act 191 of 2014 and is being maintained by the
Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The program, called the Achieving
Better Care by Monitoring All Prescriptions Program (ABC-MAP) Act, is an
electronic database listing all controlled substances that are
prescribed and dispensed in Pennsylvania. The database will help improve
patient care and prescribing practices, uncover drug diversion and
identify “doctor shopping.”
Pennsylvania is now one of 49 states
to have a database tracking prescription drug dispensing for controlled
substances, and efforts are underway to expand the database across
state lines for greater information sharing.
Veterans service officers will be
available in my Bradford and Coudersport offices in September to assist
veterans and their family members with issues such as compensation,
education, pension, health care and death benefits. Hours in the Kane
office are canceled this month due to the Labor Day holiday and will
resume on the first Monday of October.
