COMMUNITY BLOOD BANK APPEALING TO COMMUNITY FOR HELP, HOLDING BLOOD DRIVE IN EMPORIUM

EMPORIUM, PA- The Community Blood Bank is appealing to residents of Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York for help as it faces its second critical need this summer. A continued combination of increased usage and low donor turnout has left the blood bank’s inventory of blood depleted, especially O Negative & A Negative blood types.

“Our concern is having what our partner hospitals need at all times and when we’re facing the potential of not being able to do that, we rely on the community to help,” says Nicole Hornaman, communications and marketing coordinator for the blood bank.

In an effort to bring in more donors, the Community Blood Bank is giving all those who sign in to donate blood from now through August 31 a chance to win a 4-pack of tickets to see Jason Aldean in Pittsburgh on September 24. In addition to this, donors will still have the chance to earn their bonus points if they haven’t yet. The 1,000 point promotion, which started in May and ends on September 17, automatically awards donors 1,000 bonus points on their second donation during the promotion timeframe. 1,000 points is equivalent to a $10 gift card on the Blood Bank’s point store, donors can choose from a variety of gift cards or can save their points for a bigger prize.

Eligible donors are invited to donate at the Emporium Fire Hall on Thursday, August 25 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. No appointment is needed to save a life, walk-ins are welcome.

Individuals are eligible to give blood if it has been 56 days since their last donation; they are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent); weigh at least 110 pounds; have not received a tattoo or body piercing in the past 12 months; are in good general health and do not have a cold or the flu. You must have a valid photo ID in order to donate. Prior to donating, those giving blood should eat a good, solid meal and drink at least 18 oz. of water.

For more information or to find out if you are eligible please visit www.fourhearts.org or call (877) 842-0631. Community Blood Bank partners with hospitals in Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York to provide blood for patients in need. If you are at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and are in good general health, you may be eligible to donate blood.
