Many thanks to Rotarian, John Abplanalp for presiding over the meeting and introducing my guest speaker, Jim Wagner, Funeral Director for the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home, LTD, and Merv Bowers for providing information on Mr. Wagner's presentation.
Mr. Wagner spoke about the important questions one may have about funeral arrangements and end-of-life expenses. Many people do not know where to begin in planning a funeral. In addition, it is a difficult subject to think about and discuss with one’s family. He discussed funeral planning and how to begin planning, the benefits of setting aside funds ahead of time, funding options , questions about the possibility of special considerations for a U.S. Veteran, and what Social Security benefits that may be available.
In addition, Mr. Wagner provided a Preplanning checklist that could save your family from making difficult decisions at a difficult and stressful time. He stressed the importance of filling out the checklist with all the information your family will need to know and share it with them. Death Certificates may be required and therefore social numbers, military information, and any life insurance policy information will be required. There are numerous companies, including Forethought, that provide preneed planning worksheets, where one can document all information needed to assist in planning and paying for ones funeral today.
Coudersport Rotary would like to thank Mr. Wagner, Director of the THOMAS E. FICKINGER FUNERAL HOME, LTD, for being our guest and providing this valuable information.
