Highland Township Gives Up Fight To Block Drilling Waste Injection Well

by Andrew Maykuth, Staff Writer @Maykuth

Highland Township, a tiny Elk County town that in 2013 approved an ordinance banning natural-gas wastewater injection wells, overturned the ordinance this week and promptly settled a federal lawsuit with a Marcellus Shale gas producer that wants to build a disposal well in the community.

Two new supervisors on the township's three-member governing board voted Wednesday to rescind the ordinance, saying they were unlikely to prevail in a lawsuit with gas producer Seneca Resources Corp. The supervisors then entered into a consent decree with Seneca, which U.S. Magistrate Susan Paradise Baxter approved on Thursday. Read more...

Talk about Force! Highland Township agreed, under duress, a lawsuit,to accept this action! Talk about takeover by drilling companies! They can actually force their procedure completely against an ordinance and wish of the township by filing a lawsuit. Eminent Domain rules again. Sad.

I can say that they are not giving up it is the"leaders" that are giving in to the big company! Its a shame how 3 men can make this huge choice against what the people want!

what is sad is the politicans that you elect to protect you sell you out to the highest bidder So a company from another state has more say over your well being than you. This does not suprise me.You have been sold out by your locally elected politicans for years and I do not see it changing.Your children and grandchildren will pay the price for your selfishness for the last 30 years

Funny how fracking has ruined so many communities in Pennsylvania yet PA has the highest taxes on gas anywhere in the US. We pay BIG property taxes yet have no say about our lands, water nor air quality. When government & big corporations merge, that's fascism. Look at what john Kerry & son & joe biden & son are doing to the Ukraine. They changed regimes & afflicted war against the citizens and now they run the fracking operations there. Hillary Clinton instated fracking in the USA & all over the world. Fascism. This is no longer a democracy. We don't have 'leaders'. We have rulers.

to 1:10:00 pm-I am not a Hillary Clinton supporter but you need to do a LOT more research on Hydraulic Fracturing before making comments on who "instated" it. The process was patented in 1866 by Civil war veteran Colonel Edward Roberts. http://www.energyandcapital.com/articles/a-brief-history-of-fracking/2972

We'll see if the supervisors all buy new trucks and build new houses in the next couple of years....
