|Kevin Coolidge holds copies of his newest |
book, "Operation Ragnarok."
The official release party will be Friday, Sept. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the bookstore.
Until now, Coolidge's main focus has been writing for youth. In 2007, he published "Hobo Finds A Home" about his bookstore cat. This year, he has published four books in his new series "Totally Ninja Raccoons" for reluctant readers seven to 10 years old.
"Operation Ragnarok" began as a screenplay titled "The Vikings." After the script sat in a drawer, Coolidge decided to turn it into a novella.
He ran a Kickstarter campaign and with the help of supporters self-published his story of friendship and sacrifice through Ingram Spark.
Friends from Wellsboro helped him prepare his book for publication, including Annette Redman who did the cover art; Todd Heckler, the formatting; and Kasey Coolidge, Kevin's wife, the editing.
"Operation Ragnarok" is about friends, Vikings and the end of the world. A group of gamers who are going through a midlife crisis, ignore the traditional little red Corvette and instead decide to steal a Viking longship from a museum.
The action takes place in the Twin Tiers with scenes in Wellsboro, at Ives Run on Hammond Lake in Tioga, at the Rockwell Museum in Corning, N.Y., the Arnot Mall in Horseheads, N.Y. and other familiar places.
