There will be another "Let's Go Fly A Kite" program at Lyman Run State Park, Saturday August 13, from 2-4 pm on the top of the dam.

This program is free of charge and open to kids of all ages. Bring your own kites if you have them, but there will also be kites available for use thanks to the generous donation from Galeton Drug. If the weather is raining or threatening, then the program will be postponed to another date but hopefully, the wind will cooperate and allow for some fun flying. Even if the wind is very low, there are some gliders available that can be flown down the back face of the dam.

This program is brought to the public by the Friends of Lyman Run, a chapter of the Pennsylvania Parks And Forests Foundation (PPFF), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit charity dedicated to the stewardship and conservation of our state parks and forests.

PPFF works with park and forest management by providing environmental and cultural education programs, corps of volunteer labor and hours to help complete projects, raises money to pay for programs and projects, and lends the voice of advocacy to help protect our state lands through thoughtful stewardship and conservation.

The Friends of Lyman Run will also be hosting two kayak nature tours this month and will again sponsor the very popular Dutch Oven Cooking class.

These 3 programs require pre-registration through the DCNR Calendar of Events. Sign up on line for the kayak tours if you need to use one of the park's kayaks...if you have your own kayak, paddles, and life jacket, you may register by calling the park office to let them know which class you want to attend and to let them know you have your own kayak.

The park has 9 kayaks-one which is a tandem. There is no fee for the kiting or kayak programs...there is a $5.00 fee for the cooking class, payable at program time, but you also need to register on line as space for these last 3 programs is limited -so sign up soon.

If you need assistance, do not own a computer, or have any questions, please call the Lyman Run State Park Office at 814-435-5010. You do not need to pre-register for the kite flying.
