Open Arms Community Church to Honor First Responders

Open Arms Community Church is holding its second annual “Real Life Heroes” series, starting Sunday, Sept. 4. This year’s theme is First Responders.
“The idea behind this annual series of messages is that we wanted to bring attention to the heroes that are surrounding us everyday, heroes who don’t wear capes or spandex, but are dressed in police uniforms, firefighter gear, EMT uniforms, scrubs, and some in blue jeans and T-shirts,” Pastor Mike McAvoy said.

He also said, “The intention is to recognize and honor those who serve our community as real-life heroes everyday, cultivate a community gratitude toward those who serve, and to inspire everyone to be the ‘everyday heroes’ God has created us to be in our homes, neighborhoods, and places of work.”

To kick of this years series, all first responders in attendance of any of the Sunday church services in Bradford or Port Allegany will be recognized and honored and immediately following the second service there will be a cookout to thank the first responders and their families for their service and sacrifice.

The services and cookout are open to all who wish to attend, but a special invitation is extended to all first responders, who can RSVP to Stuart Abers at 814-558-1105 or firemanracing@yahoo.com, church officials say.

Bradford service times are 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. at 1289 E. Main St., Foster Township, and Port Allegany service times are 9:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at 105 Smith Ave., Port Allegany. The cookout will be held at both locations starting at 12:30 p.m.
