Oswayo Valley Memorial Library News

We would like to thank the volunteers that made this year’s Summer Reading possible. Thank you to:

● Colleen Hyde, who headed up the children’s program
● Jane Perkins, who read to the children
● Amy Clutter, who led the young adults
● Pen Yunghans, who organized events for the adults.

It was a great year for summer reading and your help is greatly appreciated!
Share the BUZZ, a program for elementary students will be held on Wednesday, August 17th, at the library. Come and learn the basics of beekeeping with Joan Bradley. Joan is a member of the North Central PA Beekeepers Association and an avid beekeeper. Please contact the library to register for this program. This program is presented free of charge.

Join us on Friday, August 19th, from noon to 1:30 for a visit from the St. Bonaventure ArtMobile! The program is free to all children. Please call the library at 814-697-6691 or stop by to sign up!

The Annual Pleasant Street Fall Festival will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10th, from 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Featuring music all day by DJ Keith Hopkins, crafts and vendors, raffles, beef on weck dinner, performance by the Shinglehouse Community Choir.

Then at 2 p.m. the program Mountains, Madness & Miracles – trekking the Appalachian Trail with Lauralee Bliss will take place. Come hear from a hiker who has accomplished the famous Appalachian Trail not once but twice AND in each direction! Hiker Lauralee Bliss “Blissful”, an AT 4,000+ miler and the ridgerunner for Shenandoah National Park, will share stories and pictures from her 4,000 mile journey which she undertook northbound with her teen son and then southbound as a solo hiker. This presentation will inspire you to reach for your hiking dreams, whatever they might be.

A book signing for her title Mountains, Madness, Miracles - 4000 Miles Along the Appalachian Trail follows. For more information about her adventures and advice for safe and fun hiking, visit Blissful Hiking http://www.blissfulhiking.com. This program is made possible through a grant from the Potter County Commissioners.

Oswayo Valley Memorial Library is a participant in PA Forward. PA Forward is an initiative for libraries to become community centers of information, technology, and learning that will help advance educational and economic opportunities for Pennsylvania citizens. One of the ways that libraries help do that is through financial literacy. Libraries provide help with financial literacy by providing literature and programming about financial topics such as budgeting, retirement planning, how to handle credit, etc.
