Scenes From The Austin Dam Show

Does the membership of the Potter County Visitor's Association even know what this event has become in recent years? I bet if they did they would not want to keep sponsoring it. This Dam Show started out as a family friendly festival of art and music and they even had community and charitable organizations with vendor booths. Some of the bands were nationally known and the bluegrass and country style of music and even some gospel thrown in befitted Potter County, God's Country. A few years ago it started to evolve to more of a jam band and heavy rock or "Woodstock" style. Odors of campfires are blended with an odor very much like burnt rope. Many attendees overindulge in alcohol. That might be the image that the Potter County Visitor's Association wants to have associated with Potter County these days. So I ask again if the members and leaders of that organization realize what they are sponsoring?

This sounds like sour grapes. Pretty sure people smoked lots of weed every single year and in fact there was an OD when the old people were running it. I've never heard anyone over doing it with alcohol in Potter County, how dare they.

But at least now at the dam, they camp instead of drive home like other years. It's a great event for some quality regional bands to play a great venue. It actually makes money now for PCVA, which it never did before. Hasn't had any issues or negative impact. In fact, it has been the catalyst of many improvements at the park.

Wish people would be a little less judgemental of others and worry a bit more about their own self-righteousness. Sounds like you need a weekend to relax and jam out, should have went to the show. It was fantastic!

I agree. We have not attended for the last 4 or 5 years because of this.

The event as it is held these days should be out on a farm or other private property. Bring in your regional bands for your party and do whatever you want to do. The idea that state tax dollars are used to support this makes me wonder if the people who are spending our dollars know what kind of an event it is.

Not good, but it's good to know what's going on, well not be supporting this. Didn't know this was going on

I was not aware that the Dam Show was sponsored by the PCVA or that there were tax dollars involved in it. If that is true then I agree the people who are organizing it should take their private party out to some private land somewhere. I do now know one person who has attended this show in several years and I know a lot of local people. It didn't used to be that way. It was like the one writer said a community kind of event with a different kind of music that matches our home county. What it is these days is not what we are. Get my tax dollars out of there.

It gets $1000 art grant, the dam is private property not state. Run by volunteers and pays for itself.

Art grant is another way of saying state tax dollars. The Dam Assn. Is 5013c and the park is public.

Contacting the board of directors from the Visitor Association is a better way to mention your concerns. Shouldn't be too hard to get the names and contact information for the directors. The people who run the Dam Association would be another place to share your concerns.

It's private property owned by ADMA that thankfully keeps it open to the public through a lot of volunteer work. Non profit does not mean public, it means contributions are tax-deductible. Municipaly owned means public. Dam Show pays them a fee, it pays for itself, I can keep splitting hairs all day. I pay well over 1000 in taxes, just pretend that's my share and your share goes to fund the war on drugs. We all win.

sounds like these people have a problem with tax dollars. There is a whole lot of tax dollars wasted in Potter County by state and local politicans.More than likely the complainers get more from the big bad gov than they contribute

I never had a problem at the Dam Show and met lots of people from outside Potter County who came to see the specific bands playing.

Sounds to me like a single person has repeatedly posted on this thread with an axe to grind against the Dam Show for some reason.

The people that run the dam don't care what go's on just so they get their money ! Many have complained over the past years about the dope and drinking but to only be ridiculed for speaking up . You say something and they come after you and your family with ridicule and public humiliation tactics to shut you up ! What this has become is shameful to the Austin and the surrounding communities ! Its all about the money and what pays them the most cause its all unclaimed cash !
