PORT ALLEGANY, PA - Donors of all blood types are urged to donate blood during this critical time as the Community Blood Bank continues to report an increased need for all blood types following a critical shortage in July.
On Wednesday, August 10, community members can donate blood at the Port Allegany Fire Hall from noon until 5 p.m. No appointment is needed to save a life, walk-ins are welcome.

Blood donated with the Community Blood Bank stays in the area, and will help ensure an adequate local blood supply for patients in need.

Donors will have the chance to earn extra points on their donation, as the Community Blood Bank’s 1,000 points promotion continues through September 17. The promotion, which began in May, gives donors the chance to earn 1,000 points on their second whole blood donation during the designated time frame. These points can then be redeemed for a $10 gift card on the blood bank’s point store.

Individuals are eligible to give blood if it has been 56 days since their last donation; are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent); weigh at least 110 pounds; have not received a tattoo or body piercing in the past 12 months; are in good general health and do not have a cold or the flu. You must have a valid photo ID in order to register. Prior to donating, those giving blood should eat a good, solid meal and drink at least 18 oz. of water.
