United Gas Workers Union Looking At Possible Lockout In Contract Dispute With Dominion

It is a crying shame that the workers have gone to work everyday without a contract but Dominion wants to lock them out because they won't sign a contract that would hurt retired and newly hired empkiyees

LOCK THEM OUT!! The plant can and will still operate and even more efficiently than it has.
These fools are nuts, they should be greatful they have a job in these hard times. The newly hired employees have plenty of time to take care of their futures.
Unions are no damn good anymore, just a bunch of greedy people trying to get more, more, more..... and doing less
When you are unemployed and your unemployment runs out you will wish you had accepted the offer.

12:17 and 1:24 you obviously have never worked in a collective bargaining world and a a special kind of stupid. They have worked hard for the benefits and wages they get and deserve just as anyone else does for their benefits. They have gone to work everyday.

2:39 you obviously work in a collective bargaining world and are a special kind of stupid. You and your union have extorted your employer for the benefits and wages you have and deserve about half. Going to work everyday is not the same as actually working.

I think this is a good thing because now maybe some honest hard working people can get jobs at Dominion and not just the friend's and families of the current employees!

If you want everything that the owner of the company has, then go start your own company. Industries, factories, and businesses don't just pop-up over night like a mushroom. Someone, at some time in the past, STARTED this company, and after years of hard work and determination it has developed into a successful business.
Now, if that's what you want, go do it. Otherwise be greatful that someone in the past had the ambition to do it and you can now leech off of it and complain because you want everything they have EARNED!
Just quit and go on welfare,, and some of the people on welfare who don't want to be, will be greatful to take your job.
Unions suck, they are still destroying this country even today.

Since when is asking for a share of the profits, the result of your own hard work, extortion? You're out of your mind and ignorant of the law.

The apologists for big corporations that post on here hating on union workers disgust me. It must be sad to live in a world of jealousy and hate.

First of all, forget the 'law', be a 'man' and look in the mirror and do what is right.
Second, being a union member, you would be the expert on jealousy and hate.
There is no doubt you hate your superiors and are jealous of their standing. Stand-up on your own and stop expecting everyone else to give you everything.
Whatever you do, don't vote to lower your standard of living, because soon you wont have a living. Wise-up.

! MY GOD JIM!!!! It's all your fault. (Again)

I thank God I was never in a union. I am actually proud of that.

"forget the law". That's a good one. Will looking in the mirror cause me to hate union members? I hope not. Ignoring the law won't make me more of a man; it would make me stupid.

Companies may have been started by someone, but Dominion is publicly traded and earned a net of almost $2 billion in 2015. The employees are as responsible for this as are management.

I've worked in union shops and non-union places. I prefer union shops. In workplaces where management had free rein, they tended to manage by edict and fear. Not always, but often enough. Unions can provide some protection from abusive management. And I don't buy the BS that all they do is protect lazy employees. That's crap.

I don't live with jealousy and hate and never let either of them guide my career. I respected those that earned it, whether they be management or the bargaining unit. Sounds like some of the posters here are very familiar with both, and to be so wrapped up in it, they must know all about it. Maybe it's in their blood. It's certainly in their minds, narrow though they be.

Most of you have no idea what so ever about what your talking about. Has nothing to do with wanting shares or more money so until you actually know what is on the table you shouldn't comment. Do you want a decrease in benefits most of us say no

Anonymous said...

Absolutely do not vote for a decrease in benefits, you would be crazy. Just stand your ground and soon you will not have any benefits..
YOU'LL show THEM!
A little lower standard if living is better than NO standard of living. Look in the mirror and you can look a fool in the eyes.
Go back to work and be greatful.

Jim, its all your fault. Please stop causing problems.

union used to be good, but has become protect the ones who don't want to work

Anonymous said...

Sounds like some of you couldn`t get into a union and that really burns your ass ! LOL

Anonymous said...

we need to get rid of the unions that protect the useless state and federal workers 'The big salaries and benefit packages are breaking states and the country,And congress wants to gut SS.Let the one's getting all the goodies sacrifice a little.

Did some research on this and found that the union wasn't being greedy at all. There meager pay raises and other small incentives but nothing life changing. They voted no to protect people already retired and people that haven't even been hired yet.

Anonymous said...

Did you look at what non union employees receive? The same thing that the union is being offered. Did you also research what other companies offer their employees? The same thing that the union is being offered. These people need to be happy they have a job AND that it isn't a very difficult job. As long as everything is operating correctly they hardly ever have any work to do. Also the comments about management are unfair. Non-union employees are called management and will be forced to work crazy hours (possibly without pay) if a shut out or strike does occur. Those comments should be directed at the bargaining units not management. Management has no say in any of it.

Thank you! Someone smart in all of this craziness. Unions were developed to protect employees in an era where the government didn't have laws to. They are outdated and stupid. I've witnessed unions protecting employees that should have been fired long ago. All they do is protect the bad workers and hinder the good.

6.22-----The most intelligent made in this comment page. These government officials are really set for life, we as taxpayers foot the bill and their benefits are a guaranteed perk far beyond what any other worker, anywhere. This depth of benefits is beyond belief, no matter how the job has been done. Teachers pensions are also untouchable.

i was not going to reply to some of these comments, but let me say just a few things. i retired from Dominion not long ago, i worked almost 30 years, before that i worked almost 10 years for a non union company, those were very tight years, had no insurance, no overtime, and made little money, yes its sad to say unions have to protect all workers,if there was not unions, a lot of workers would be making minimum wage, your gas bill is not effected by what they make. and 10:34, you think its not that hard, try walking around pipe and valves with over 1000 psi of natural gas, some places its over 4000 psi. and one wrong move and that's all folks, they are highly trained, professional workers ,they work holidays, weekends, shift work,in all weather conditions.the deal is, Dominion's CEO last year made over 20 million in just pay, not including stock options, and all the other perks, so they should just take away the retirees insurance, and not offer new hires a pension? get the facts before bad mouthing Dominion Union workers. and do you think management can do there job? they don't even know how to do there own....
