Three programs will be offered at Lyman Run State Park. These programs are sponsored by the Friends of Lyman Run, a chapter of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation. Thursday, August 18 at 7:00 pm, there will be a Nature Kayak Tour of Lyman Lake led by kayaking expert, John Halter. You need not have any kayaking experience to participate in this program as instruction will be giving prior to launch. The park has 9 kayaks available for the program (one is a tandem) and this means you will need to pre-register for this program on-line.

If you have your own kayak and equipment (paddles and PFD's) then you may register by calling the Lyman Run State Park office at 814-435-5010 and let staff know which program you are signing up for and that you have your own kayak. The second Nature Kayak tour will be on Sunday morning the 21st at 9 am. The kayak programs are free.

Cooking in the outdoors with a Dutch Oven will be offered at 5 pm on Tuesday the 23rd. This class is limited to sign up soon. There is a $5.00 fee to take this class. The fee will be collected at the pavilion just before the class starts. A breakfast frittata and a pear pancake will be on the menu. Participants will learn how to use a dutch oven and its history then will prepare the meals from scratch, then eat them...of course! This class will be taught by Jan and John Halter.

To register for these programs, please go to the DCNR Calendar of Events, then go to the date and find the class...on the side menu there is a button that says "buy Tickets" on this even for the free programs..then follow the page instructions. You will then receive a confirmation via email. This is the best way to register for the classes, but in the case where you do not have access to a computer, then you can call the park staff and ask for assistance.

The Friends of Lyman Run (FOLR) is also hosting the Stars in the Arts festival at Lyman Run on September 10. This festival is for juried artisans within the PA Wilds and surrounding area and will also include musical concerts and several food vendors. Any artisans wishing to participate may still apply. Applications are available at area State Park offices, the PA Wilds Cooperative Store in Coudersport, the Rt. 6 Tourism Office in Galeton and Firestone Forge in Germania.

FOLR is also still looking for business sponsors for this cultural event. Donations for music, advertising, and Kids Crafts can be sent to Lyman Run State Park, 454 Lyman Run Road, Galeton, PA 16922. Checks should be made out to PPFF (PA Parks and Forests Foundation) with Stars/Arts in the memo line. PPFF is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit charity and any donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Please contact event manager Chris Firestone if you have any questions at (814) 435-7727 (evenings). Stars in the Arts runs from 10 am to 6 pm and will be followed by stargazing programs both at Cherry Springs and Lyman Run dam. This program is also free of charge.
