Closure/Detour Extended near Cherry Springs as Bridge Repair Continues until October 7

Galeton, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is extending the bridge closure in West Branch Township on Route 2002.

PennDOT expects the bridge to be closed through October 7.

PennDOT closed the bridge late-August to replace the bridge’s concrete beams and expected to re-open it September 30. The bridge spans the West Branch of Pine Creek about 2 miles northeast of the village of Cherry Springs.

From Route 2002, a detour using Routes 44, 144 and Route 6 remains in place. Part of the detour takes traffic into Galeton Borough. Drivers familiar with the area may choose to use alternate routes. All work is weather dependent.

Repairing the bridge will extend its useful life and allow PennDOT to remove it from Potter County’s structurally deficient list.

The 17-foot bridge was originally built in 1938 and spans the West Branch of Pine Creek. It carries an average of just over 110 vehicles each day.
