From 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 and again on Oct. 1, Curt Weinhold, a Pennsylvania Wilds juried artisan, is offering a two-hour Nightscapes Photography Workshop at Cherry Springs State Park at 4639 Cherry Springs Road in Coudersport. The park is midway between Galeton and Coudersport.

Registered participants will meet at the visitor parking lot by the kiosk for the first portion of the program. The workshop will begin in the park but may require travel to two or more locations near the park so personal vehicles are required.

Weinhold will teach participants how to use the digital single-lens reflex camera and lenses they already own to photograph constellations and the Milky Way and how to add to a photo's composition by including trees or buildings in the foreground. This workshop is not for those who want to learn how to take photographs through a telescope.

To view samples of Weinhold's dark sky photography, visit For answers to questions about the workshop, email

Registrants are asked to bring their own DSLR camera and interchangeable lenses, a tripod, a fully charged camera battery, a spare fully charged camera battery if available, a memory card and a jacket to wear if it is cold.

This workshop will only be cancelled if there is a 100 percent chance of rain. If it is cloudy or overcast, it will not be cancelled.

Payment of the $35 fee by check or cash is due upon arrival at the program.

Register by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 for the Saturday, Sept. 24 workshop and by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 for the Saturday, Oct. 1 workshop. It is limited to 10 participants.

To register, visit or call (814) 435-1037 or (814) 435-5010.

As of Monday, Aug. 22, visitors to Cherry Springs traveling Route 6 west from Wellsboro and Mansfield need to use Route 6 west to Sweden Valley and then Route 44 south to Cherry Springs because West Branch Road is now closed for bridge repairs past the turn for Lyman Run State Park.
