John H. Jones, 78, of Gaines, PA

John H. Jones

John H. Jones, 78, of Gaines, PA, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016, at the Green Home, Wellsboro, PA. 

Born April 22, 1938 in Rochester, NY, he was a son of the late Robert and Necia (Johnston) Jones. 

John was a 1957 Graduate of Cowanesque Valley High School. 

US Army Veteran
On June 19, 1957, he married the former Frances Cole, who survives. 

John was a Veteran having served in the United States Army. 

He was a night watchman for St. Mary’s Carbon and loved the outdoors. 

John enjoyed NASCAR and visiting and drinking coffee with his friends at all the local restaurants, especially the Dunkin Donuts in Wellsboro. 

In addition to his wife, Frances, John is survived by a son, Ronald (Amanda) Jones, TN; four daughters, Tammy Hamberger, Wellsboro, PA, Cherie (Robert) Vannatter, Mills, PA, Deborah Morris, Carlisle, PA, and Marcia (Hershel) Holsomback, Middlebury Center, PA; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three sisters, Roberta Jones and Karen (Larue) Ogden, both of FL, and Crystal (Roger) Lawrence , Wichita KS. 

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Rayford Jones, a grandchild, and two great grandchildren. 

Friends may call at the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Galeton, on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 9:30:00-11:00am. A Funeral Service followed at 11:00am with the Rev. Keith Paris officiating. Burial will be in the Sabinsville Cemetery, Sabinsville, PA. 

Military Honors will be accorded by the Tioga County Honor Guard. 

Memorial contributions may be made to a local V.F.W.
