This year's 31st Annual Books Unlimited Gala promises to feature something for everyone! Donations are rolling in for the auction portion of the event, which will be held Friday, Oct. 21 at St. Eulalia Parish Center in Coudersport. Proceeds benefit Coudersport Public Library's ongoing operational expenses.
Among the latest items to be received are two tickets to a 2017 regular season Pittsburgh Pirates home game, as well as an antique dough table, perfect for lovers of vintage furniture. Many other smaller items, including a variety of specialty baskets, jewelry items, gift certificates and vouchers for services, are also on the list to be auctioned during the Bag, Silent or Live auctions.
Tickets are going fast, and are available from Library Board and Auction Committee members, as well as at the Library at a cost of $30 each. Last year's event was a sell-out, so attendees are urged to get their tickets early this year.
Books Unlimited is the library's major fundraising event for the year, accounting for a significant percentage of the operating budget. The library operates on a combination of state subsidy, county contribution, support from some of the municipalities we serve, fundraisers and public donations. Last year's auction netted more than $31,000 after expenses. For more information, stop in or call the library at 274-9382. Item and monetary donations are still being accepted; those received by October 7 will be listed in the program booklet.
