Pitt-Bradford Wednesday Athletics Recap

Volleyball Captures First Sweep of Behrend Since 2011

BRADFORD, Pa. - Pitt-Bradford volleyball swept Penn State Behrend Wednesday to run its winning streak to five matches and remain undefeated in the AMCC.

The Panthers made quick work of the visiting Lions, finishing the match in less than 90 minutes, winning 25-17, 25-13, 25-22. It was Pitt-Bradford's first sweep of Behrend since 2011.

Kirsten Platz finished with a team-high nine kills, Rose Thacker added six and two players had four. Christina Rauh paced the attack with 24 kills, and Alexis Dhayer, Platz and Erin Fagan had two aces apiece. Defensively, no Panther had more than six kills, and Platz had a match-high six blocks. Dhayer, Thacker and Mandy Finch each registered three blocks apiece.

Pitt-Bradford improves to 14-3 on the season, 3-0 in the conference and will host SUNY Geneseo Thursday at 7 p.m.

Women's Soccer Falls to Alfred

BRADFORD, Pa. - The Pitt-Bradford women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Alfred Wednesday. It was the Panthers’ final non-conference match of the year.

Jasmine Adams nearly put Pitt-Bradford on the board in the opening minutes, dribbling past the Alfred goalkeeper only to have her shot blocked at the last second by a Saxons’ defender. Minutes later, Alfred converted in transition, jumping ahead 1-0. The score would remain that way until the second half when Pitt-Bradford’s Meghan Thomas was whistled for a foul in the box. The Saxons converted the ensuing penalty kick and added another goal for good measure in the 63rd minute to cap the scoring.

The Panthers were aggressive on offense yet were turned back time and time again. Both teams attempted 13 shots and four corner kicks. Pitt-Bradford’s Sarah Dailey finished with six saves in net.

The Panthers drop to 3-4-2 on the season and will host Pitt-Greensburg Sunday at 1 p.m.

Alfred State Scores Late to Knock Off Men's Soccer

ALFRED, N.Y. - Alfred State scored the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute Wednesday night to defeat the Pitt-Bradford men’s soccer team 2-1.

The Pioneers led 1-0 at the break, outshooting the Panthers 13-5 in the opening frame. In the 48th minute, Mohammed Al Qahtani’s header off a corner kick found the back of the net for the Panthers’ first goal of the season, tying the match at one. Brian Bao was credited with the assist. Alfred State’s Jake Vattimo used the same script in the 71st minute to put Alfred State ahead for good.

Alfred State outshot the Panthers 20-10 and held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Colin Frownfelter was credited with 10 saves and McFetridge led the Panthers with three shots.

Pitt-Bradford drops to 0-8 on the season and will host Pitt-Greensburg Saturday at 3 p.m.
