PSUD Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader in Fall Ball Opener

DuBOIS – The Penn State DuBois Baseball Team opened the Fall Ball season at home on Sunday by claiming victory in both games of a doubleheader against Westmoreland County Community College. The Lions took the first game 10-0, and followed up with a 5-3 win on the second game.

Head coach Tom Calliari said he's pleased with his team's performance, noting he expected great results from a team he has confidence in. "We are in a much better place than we were last year," Calliari said. Last year's team took Fifth Place in the United State Collegiate Athletics Association (USCAA) Small College World Series. Calliari said this year, he's ready to lead the team to first place.

"We have many more options with our depth," Calliari said. "Pitching is the engine that drives our game, but we also have a lot of players with a wide range of talents. Our success will depend on everyone being willing to assume their role and do what they are good at. They have to be who they are. We're set up to have a good season."

Penn State DuBois Baseball is back in action on Saturday, September 17, at home at Showers Field in DuBois, squaring off in a doubleheader against Mercyhurst North East. Those games are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. They'll take on Penn State Altoona at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24. That game is set to take place at Medlar Park in State College, the home of the State College Spikes.
