Registration now open for PA Wilds Fall 2016 Trails Forum

Event to be held Oct. 21 in Clarion County

The PA Wilds Planning Team is hosting the Fall 2016 Trails Forum, a full-day event with guest speakers. The public is invited to attend. Registration is required and the registration fee includes lunch.

The forum is being organized by the Planning Team’s Transportation Committee. The committee’s co-chair, Farley Wright, said the theme of the event is two-fold. “The first is to introduce attendees to the rapidly emerging Bike PA route network and discuss the benefits of connecting to it,” he said. “The second is to discuss how, once connected, do our communities ensure that they are welcoming and bike-and-hike friendly, which will encourage return visits and word of mouth promotion.”

The forum will be held Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Allegheny Grille in Foxburg, PA. It will include guest speakers, lunch and networking opportunities. The forum will highlight some emerging trends.

“Journey Cycling is a rapidly growing market and the Pennsylvania Wilds, with its vast natural beauty and rustic older towns is in a prime position to take full advantage of this market segment,” Wright said. “In addition, PennDOT is committed to the concept of multiple use roadways and is embracing this commitment as they do roadway improvements, such as 3- to 4-foot shoulders where possible to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians alike. These two emerging trends create significant opportunities for our communities, provided we understand how to connect and what to offer. This Forum will provide the answers to those questions and more, including a session for one-to-one analysis of difficult roadway intersects.”

The Pennsylvania Wilds region includes the counties of Warren, McKean, Potter, Tioga, Forest, Elk, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Jefferson, Clinton, Lycoming and northern Centre.

The PA Wilds Planning Team is a core partner in the effort to grow nature tourism in the Pennsylvania Wilds. The Planning Team was established in 2004 under and intergovernmental cooperative agreement, the largest geographically of its kind in PA. The group consists of county planners, tourism and heritage professionals, economic development organizations, state and federal partners and other stakeholders from across the region’s 12 ½ counties.
