Update On Dominion Gas Union Worker Lockout

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

It is official as most of you know UGWU Local 69 has been lock out by Dominion. All day yesterday the Unions Executive board worked diligently to avoid this work stoppage, including providing the Company the offer to agree not to strike if they would not lock out while we continue to negotiate.

They responded to the offer by locking us out.

The Executive board fully understand the battle we are facing and the mass disruption the Company has placed on us as each of the Board will be facing the same circumstances going forth.

We are scheduled to meet with the Company on Thursday September 8th at noon and a Federal Mediator has agreed to attend and assist in the meeting. Many members are asking what do we do now?

Today we ask members to contact their Steward, Director and or officer for details and direction for picket duty as outlined on the picket schedule. Long term we are asking members to continue to support each other and the Union. I want to assure everyone that the leadership/Executive board will be do everything possible to get our membership back to wok and negotiate a fair contract.

Members communications are essential going forth, stay in contact with your Steward and continually check Facebook and our Webpage for updates as we are committed to providing information as it becomes available. Stay strong and stand together. .

Who makes-up the unions executive board? Local people working at the plant or other people who don't even work there?

Anonymous said...

I'm sure the guys working at the gas plant are not under paid. Fire the union and hire non union. Get the work done twice as fast and for 25% less. Unions had their place in this country in the early 1900's. It's 2016 and time to get rid of them. They protect those who won't work. Ever hear of teachers unions? Same thing.

The eboard is made up of members of the union local.

Picket schedule? Seriously?

You can tell by the first paragraph of the statement from the President that he is not well versed. Many typographical errors from the start. He is the one that is chosen to lead the Union? Why? Because he has the most time in? The loudest voice? I, myself, would want someone who has the ability to at least use correct English to support what the Union is fighting for. Hard to take anyone serious when you can't even follow what they are writing. The company has to be laughing that this is who the Union chose to lead them.

12:28 - I couldn't agree more!

So let me get this straight. The Union had to make an offer NOT to have it's members go on strike....which it obviously has threatened to do, if they don't get their way, but when the company locks out the union....probably because they were tired of being threatened with a strike, they are the "bad guys?" Unions had their time back in the early 1900's, but now they are run just like another business and they are causing all goods in the USA to have inflated prices due to the greedy demands of the people.

I can't wait to find out where to go and get in line for one of these jobs.. Please keep us updated.

I really feel sorry for the union members who had enough sense to vote FOR the contract but they were the minority. They are probably the more intelligent ones who have families and want to take care of them. Knowing that what they have is much better than nothing (will be).
You employees who voted to accept the proposed contract have my support and sympathy, I feel sorry for you and your families. The rest of you are going to end up with what you deserve...nothing!

You folks that think you can just go do these jobs had better figure out where you are going to get hundreds of hours of training as mandated by law. Then you had better be ready to take all the government required tests for each discipline. 30 or 40 of those with an 80% grade ought to get you certified to take over. Oh, and that would be while under supervision until you have the required hands/on hours under your belt. Best of luck and bring your check book.

unions Suck said...

6:01,, when YOU started you had none of that training or certification, just like the new people. But they will get it just like you did.
The difference is they will deserve it and appreciate it and put it to WORK for their families and future.!!
You aren't the only person who can get the training etc. and jump thru the government hoops.
By the way, I'll have a Big Mac with fries and a large Coke...(.Better get used to it.)

To everyone who wants to show up for a job to "ride in a truck" and "turn valves". Make sure you're capable of performing hot work task, lockout/Tag out, and that all your Veriforce OQ'S are up to date. You scabs off the street should be hired full time in no time! Shouldn't be too hard to get those. Afterall, those dumb Union guys can do it.

7:06. Those qualifications and training were acquired through years of training both on the job and prior to being hired for the job. If you've never worked in the industry, you aren't ready for the job. That's dangerous. By the way, the training cost thousands of dollars. Most can't afford that. Do you really think that a company who is currently trying to screw it's tenured employees wants to pay for the training for people less qualified? Get a clue, temp workers will be treated like shit and kicked to the curb as soon as the union and dominion reach an agreement.

Yea but you still have to pass a math and reading test to even be considered getting hired and I can bet most of the people around here couldn't pass it. And what do you mean he doesn't deserve it!! If you have no idea what is going on you should prob just keep your mouths shut. Just an fyi always the first to judge on something you know nothing about

Oh my , you guys obviously have no idea why the union did not agree to contract. They were absolutely thinking of the well being and safety of there families! They were also thinking of people like you who could be potentially hired in the future as well as the guys that have retired. What the company wants to take is not from the current employees but from those getting hired going forward! You obviously don't have a job there due to not being very smart! I wish you the best, those that are selfish will have there's coming someday!

unions Suck said...

"Lock out/ tag out" etc OOhhhh, you mean put a lock on a switch or valve and place a label on there that says "Don't use"!??
WOW! That's really hard.. Biggest concern is that the next union guy can READ it.

Anonymous said...

Yeah because they had to go through testing and then training for those jobs. And guess what the guys that do the training guess what Dominion locked them out so who's going to train these new workers

Anonymous said...

hate to tell u. when Clinton takes over the Mexicans are gonna have your jobs for 15 an hour max...that's on the table folks

Anonymous said...

Whats a mexican?? As soon as Hillary is elected theyll all become Americans. And 15 max?!?! Thatll be the new starting wage across the board. Youll all be able to buy condoms and visit a dentist more than once in a lifetime.

A caged monkey could be trained to do what you clowns do. Get real, hot trucks, long days, go work at the glass factory for a day, OOO yeah they closed that down too. Ever think your communication skills are at fault for a poorly operated union. They should keep the non union people and hire others that are willing to work. The clowns that think they need a raise when they already make over $30 an hour, leave them to fend for them self somewhere else and move.

Anonymous said...

They didn't want a raise you clown can't you read

Anonymous said...

Maybe u are right 9:23, most of the people making comments here cant read or its to much for them to read. Seems like dominion needs to stop the games and practice what they preach , guess they don't care as much as they say they do. No world glass here, we now know where there heart sits.

What are they fighting over?
During negotiations for the new labor contract for UGWU Local 69 gas line workers that are employed by Dominion, there were two sticking points that have led to the lockout; Dominion’s proposed elimination of retiree medical insurance, and replacing the existing pension program with a cash-balance pension and enhanced 401(k) savings plan for all new hires.

According to a Dominion release, the tentative agreement offered “a nearly 11 percent base pay raise over four years and company-paid pension and retiree health benefits for all current employees. This tentative agreement also gives Medicare-eligible retirees a stipend to buy additional coverage that best suits their needs rather than be forced into the existing one-size-fits-all plan. Employees hired on or after January 1, 2017 would not be eligible for retiree medical benefits.”

Sounds like they are fighting for people that are future employees and trYing to recruit good people that will be good for them. I hope it works out for all you people that would love to have one of those jobs. they are fighting for you. Jack Wagons. As uneducated as some of you seem, your chances of getting a position aren't good. So keep bagging your groceries and whipping up those chili cheese dogs and pumping that gas.

I've been turning my garden hose on and off, operating my LP gas grill, burning my coleman camping lanterns, reading the gauges on my dash board for many years. I am certain I could do one of these jobs.
Where and how do I apply?
I would be greatful to make anything above minimum wage.
