Goodness I’ve been very ill, yet am trying to keep up with my garden, flower beds, canning and all the activities I’m involved in. If there is something I’ve missed or you want me to report on something in my column please contact me. I’ve notice the birds swarming in groups looks like they are thinking about their winter travels plans.
At the School: Girls Basketball Team Chicken BBQ is on Saturday September 17th from noon until 1:30 p.m. these are pre sales tickets. Music students and Music Boosters will be holding Zap-a-snack fund raiser. They have a Sports Booster Meeting, Tuesday, September, 20, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. The School has entered into an exciting new venue with the Otto Eldred School District our football players have been a part of the Otto Eldred Squad for a couple of years. This year some of our band students and cheerleaders will be joining their squads to perform and be a part of a great team. Homecoming will be their first big event. On Friday, September 23, 2016 from 3:00-5:30 the students will be having a Fall Festival at the Oswayo Valley High School that will be held outside with great food and activities for the kids. At 6:00 the students will be boarding a bus to travel to Otto-Eldred where they will participate in a game against Port Allegany, the game starts at 7:00. I will be going to cover the event for the school and cheer the kids on. Shinglehouse Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are holding open enrollment now, see their Facebook pages for more information. Spaghetti Dinner and Chinese Auction Benefit is being held for Ed Elling Sr. who has stage 4 cancer. This event will be at the Richburg’s Fireman’s Clubhouse, Richburg, N.Y. beginning at noon till 6.00 p.m., Dinners is $7.00 each children under 2 free.
Potter County Trail Busters Snowmobile Club have cancelled their Grass Drag on Saturday, September 17, 2016; See their Facebook page for more information. They are holding a Gun Raffle for Ruger American .243 Caliber w/Scope. To raise money to pay for winter trail insurance for the 148 miles of trails they groom for winter use throughout throughout the area. Contact me or a club member for tickets. Knapp Creek ATV Dice Run sponsored by the Knapp Creek Fire Department will be held with registration from 8:00-11:00. They have over 40 miles of trails to ride, with vendors and a chicken diner available. This is their ninth year of having this fundraising event for rural Ambulance Program in Knapp Creek. They are located at 253 Route 16 S., Olean, N.Y. Last year this event drew over 1200 ATV, Dirt Bike and UTV riders.
2016 Annual Fall Festival at Kinzua Bridge State Park will be from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. entrance located outside of Mount Jewitt, Pa. They will have the new visitor center open with an art show, food , vendors and spectacular views from the skywalk and observation deck.

Pink Pumpkin Project 2nd annual Celebration at the Old Library Olean, N.Y. beginning at 6:00 p.m. they are sold out what a great cause they thank everyone for supporting them.
The Patriots Guard Riders will be in town Sunday, September 18, 2016 to honor John Volz. You will see the assemble at the American Legion on route 44 from where they will escort the Volz family at 11:50 a.m. to Maple Grove Cemetery to do a Presentation of Honor for John K. Volz Jr. The Reverend Rusty Horning will begin with a prayer followed by the Potter county Honor Guard giving a salute, Chris Piaggi will play Amazing Grace on the bagpipes and Gordon Visseau will end with taps. After the ceremony everyone will assemble at Amergion Legion Post #530 for a social time to meet with the Patriot Honor Guard
At the Library: Oswayo Valley Memorial Library Book club will meet Monday, September 19 at 1:30 p.m. they are reading, “The Year of the Hare” by Arto Paasilinna. Knitting Group meets 6:00 at the library setting room, all types of fiber artists welcome. Writer’s Guild Wednesday September 21 at 6:30 p.m. manuscripts are at the circulation desk for the group.
Piecemakers Quilt Club will meet at the Methodist Church, Monday September 19 at 10:30 a.m.- 1:30 a.m. Quilter’s welcome or anyone who would like to learn quilting contact Monica at 814-697-7625.
There will be a Small Town Christmas Meeting on Monday, September 19th at 6:00 p.m., Oswayo Valley Senior Center. Open to the public come join us to plan for this December event.

The Potter County Fair is planning a “Haunted Barns at the Fairgrounds” and need your help! This event is being held on October 21 and 22 at the fairgrounds in Millport. They are looking for businesses, organizations, groups, family and friends to decorate and man stations at the event. You would be responsible for providing your own props and actors to operate your station. The space would be approximately 10 feet by 10 feet.
