Tuna Valley Trail Association Discussed Final Preparations For Saturday's Marilla Trail Race

The October meeting of the Tuna Valley Trail Association board of directors was held Tuesday. Final preparations for this Saturday's Marilla Trail Race were discussed. With advanced online race registrations now closed, there are 40 runners for the 14 mile race and 60 runners for the 7 mile race. There are also 25 registrants for the the 3.5 mile hike which will be conducted on a section of the newly developed Cornelius Connection Trail. On site registration will be held on race day, Oct. 8, for those who still wish to participate.

Work continues on the new Cornelius Connection Trail and Trailhead, which is located directly across Route 346 West from the Marilla Reservoir. This trail will link the Marilla Reservoir area to the Gilbert Reservoir area. Several walkways for bogs and drainage ditches have been fabricated with work continuing on a few that remain. A trailhead kiosk and large stones, one with a memorial plaque, have been set in place. The Cornelius Connection Trail dedication ceremony will be held on Oct 15 at 10:00am. The trail is named in honor of the late Gene Cornelius, founding member and Master Trailblazer of the TVTA, who passed away earlier this year.

The dedication and ribbon cutting for the Hanley Park and Trail was held on Sept. 28. This project was a jojnt community partnership with numerous contributors. These partners included the Pa DCNR & DCED, City of Bradford, OECD, Blaisdell Foundation, Swanson Fabricators, Bradford Flood Authority, Gametime, and the TVTA. It was noted that this project, along with other community projects, resulted in a Community Initiative Award to the Bradford Revitalization Team of McKean County from the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office (PA SHPO). This team includes Bradford’s Office of Economic & Community Development (OECD), the Downtown Bradford Revitalization Corp., the Main Street Program and McKean County’s Economic Development office.

Financial statements for 2015 were presented and approved. A proposal for design services and plans for the Cornelius Connection Trailhead was presented and funding to proceed was approved.

Recognition and thanks were given to Keystone Powdered Metal of Lewis Run for the development of a large trailhead area for the Blaisdell - Emery Trail near the main entrance of their manufacturing facility. The TVTA will be fabricating and installing a new kiosk in this location as soon as it can be constructed.

Additional TVTA organization information is available on Facebook and at The next board meeting will be held on November 8.
