2:53 PM--WKBW Buffalo, NY - The search is on for a missing plane just south of the state line in northwestern Pennsylvania.

That search area includes parts of Potter, McKean, Cameron and Elk Counties.

The single engine Piper Cherokee airplane was flying from Richmond, Virginia to St. Catharines, Ontario with 3 people on board last night when it changed course to avoid a thunderstorm.

After the plane changed course, all contact with the aircraft was lost near Keating Summit, Pennsylvania.

Is this going to be live on here or on tv, radio, as far as some of the other comments we as citizens have the right to know, if you live alone in a remote area you should know just like a prison break, DON'T WAIT TIL SOME THING HAPPENS to a family. Prayers for all involved yes I think everyone is praying, for all in this, from plane to fire, emts, all yes I am praying for all.. ARE YOU who are so quick to judge others?????

Quit being nosy! You know enough information! You know there is a missing/downed aircraft in/around the Keating Summit/155/Reed Run:Roulette area! You don't have the RIGHT to know every single detail of an on going search/investigation! If it were of major concern to other citizens other than the individuals & family of the individuals then the citizens of the area would be informed! Right now you know a private plane has went missing with 3 individuals on board! Firefighters, EMS, search teams are doing all they can at this moment to located and hopefully recover/return these individuals to their families! Have respect for the individuals working their hardest on doing so and the family of the missing who are currently hoping & praying for the best but yet are fearing the worst!

To those who say it is your right to know what is going on. You are very selfish and shallow. How can they give information when they weren't even sure where the aircraft was located? The searchers and all involved had a very tough night. Did you see how foggy it was? Don't you think before information is given to the public that the families of those involved should be told? I am sure if it was a danger people would have been notified as soon as that information was available. The information will be released when available.
Everyone is concerned and praying for all involved. What makes you any different than the rest of the people who are wondering?

I am actually a family member. I am grateful for the efforts of the search teams. I am hopeful that there is a positive outcome for all the families involved. Please keep these missing, the families of the missing and the members of the search parties in your prayers. This is a situation I would not wish on any family. Thank-you.

I am just wondering why the USAF is involved for a civilian incident.

PRAYERS FOR ALL THOSE INVOLVED.

Civil Air Patrol
The Civil Air Patrol is a congressionally chartered, federally supported non-profit corporation that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. CAP is a volunteer organization with an aviation-minded membership that includes people from all backgrounds, lifestyles, and occupations. It performs three congressionally assigned key missions: emergency services, which includes search and rescue and disaster relief operations; aerospace education for youth and the general public; and cadet programs for teenage youth. In addition, CAP has recently been tasked with homeland security and courier service missions. CAP also performs non-auxiliary missions for various governmental and private agencies, such as local law enforcement and the American Red Cross. The program is established as an organization by Title 10 of the United States Code and its purposes defined by Title 36.

You ask why the USAF is involved for a civilian incident?!?!?!? Really?!?!?! Think about it for a few moments. Just like the national Guard, the coast Guard etc they are here to protect us and assist us, they have the training, the equipment, (to pick up the emergency locator transmitter signal from an aircraft that has crashed), the resources, etc to quickly locate an aircraft in distress.

As far as its "your right to know" it's not your right to know more then you need to know annnnnd you know all you need to know now....get a life.

Why is the USAF involved? Must have connections.

Anonymous said...

The USAF is involved as the civil Air Patrol is associated with the USAF. It is completely normal to have the USAF involved in an aircraft related incident.

Is it a 'winged' aircraft?

Anonymous said...

Article says it's a single engine Piper Cherokee. That is a "winged" aircraft.
