MULTIPLE FIRE DEPTS FIGHT APARTMENT HOUSE FIRE IN ELKLAND

MULTIPLE FIRE DEPTS FIGHT APARTMENT HOUSE FIRE

ELKLAND - Elkland and Osceola fire crews were dispatched to a structure fire in Elkland around 8:55AM on Monday, October 10, 2016.

Around 9:05 AM FNN received word that heavy smoke was seen coming from a large white house located on Coates Street in Elkland.

Soon Knoxville and Nelson fire crews were dispatched to provide mutual aide, as well as, units from Lawrenceville, Tioga, Westfield and Woodhull. Mansfield fire personnel was dispatched to respond with their air trailer. Other departments were dispatched to stand by for the fire departments that had responded to the scene. Lindley fire personnel stood by for Lawrenceville Fire Department.

At this time FNN is still awaiting information to come in about this fire. At this time it has been confirmed that the house consisted of 3 apartment units. Two of the apartments were gutted, while a third is said to be repairable. It is unknown what caused the fire. It is also unknown how much the damage cost will be.

Fire crews worked nearly a hour and a half by the time fire personnel were able to bring the fire under control. The fire was finally reported out by 11:22 AM. However, fire crews were still on scene for some time after noon, as clean up and ventilation of the building was handled by those fire crews who remained at the scene.

Prayers for those who lost their homes are appreciated. FNN has requested information on clothes sizes, any planned fundraiser and a drop off location for those wishing to help these individuals. If anyone has this kind of information please share with FNN so it can be shared with others. FNN was told that the American Red Cross was assisting those who lost their homes.
