Quilts of Potter County

The Potter County Historical Society has assembled a display for the months of October through February, Quilts of Potter County. This is a collection of an assortment of quilts dating from the early 1800’s through the 1970’s made by Potter County people. There are several signature quilts made by families familiar to the area. The quilts range from the most basic utilitarian wool quilt to the elaborately embroidered Victorian crazy quilt.

Several quilt patterns have been identified. In addition to the current display there are several quilts in one of the upstairs rooms that are part of the permanent collection. Potter County Historical Society hours are Monday and Friday from 10:30 am to 4:00. Quilt groups or other interested parties may call the society on those days to make arrangements for a tour that may accommodate the groups time schedule by calling 814-274-4410. The January Bulletin will feature information about the quilts and their makers.
