Robert W. “R. F.” Fitch Sr. 84, Passed away on September 30, 2016 at the Olean General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born July 30, 1932 in Thomas, Washington County, Pa. he was a son of Cecil and Sarah O’Hara Fitch Sr. On February 25, 1986 in Las Vegas he married Patricia A. Close Hicks, who survives.

He was a graduate of the Ringold High School in Washington County and had resided in Fredericksburg, Va. before moving to Eldred in 1991.
Bob was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the Naval Air Corp from 1952 to 1956. He was employed as a private home building contractor in the Eighty Four, Pa. area and was later employed by Ryan Homes of Pittsburgh, as a field manager and as a plant manager before his retirement in1989.
R.F. was a Thirty Second Degree Mason of the Union and Pittsburgh Jurisdiction, and was a past member of various American Legions, Moose Clubs and V.F.W.’s in the area’s where they were living. He was a past member of the Smethport Country Club. He, and his family and his faithful dog “Otis”, loved spending time at their camp in Clermont, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and dirt track racing.
He was always an avid Pittsburgh Pirate and Steeler and Penguin fan and when he was young he had played baseball for the Pirate Farm Team in Butler, Pa.
Surviving in addition to his wife, and Father and Mother-In-Law, Don and Helen Close and their family of Eldred, are two sons, Clint (Beth) Hicks of Fredericksburg, Va. and Robert Fitch Jr. of Washington County, two daughters, Debbie (Thomas) Buckels of Washington, Pa. and Amy (David) O’Rourke of Bethel Park, Pa., eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter, one brother, Cecil Fitch Jr. of Eighty Four.
Bob was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy J. Senger and Shirley Gaspich.
At the families request a private funeral service will be held at the convience of the family. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
The family wishes that Memorial contributions be made to the Bradford SPCA.
