Construction Complete for Route 49 Bridge Project

Potter County Bridge replaced as part of Public-Private Partnership

Coudersport, PA – A Route 49 bridge in Potter County that’s been under construction as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, is complete and open to traffic. The bridge spans a branch of Cowanesque Creek near the village of Mills. Replacement of the bridge allows PennDOT to remove it from Potter County’s structurally deficient bridge list.

The bridge reopened to traffic on Friday, Nov. 18. Replacement work was performed by LC Whitford.

The new crossing is longer and wider than the one it replaced and is designed with a 100-year lifespan.

This bridge is referred to as JV-85 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
