Jessie Elizabeth Monroe, 91, formerly of Tioga, PA

Jessie Elizabeth Monroe

Jessie Elizabeth Monroe, 91, formerly of Tioga passed away Thursday evening November 17, 2016 at Broad Acres Nursing Home, in Wellsboro.

She was born in Potter Brook, May 4, 1925, a daughter of James and Kathryn Rowley Cary. She was married June 2, 1945 to Ronald W. Monroe, Sr., who passed away on March 2, 2012. 

She was a homemaker her entire life; having raised 8 children. 

She was known in the area for her cooking and for years was the head cook at the Tioga Preserve.

Her survivors include her 8 children, Ronald W. Monroe, Jr. ; Keith Monroe (Dawn) , James Monroe all of Tioga and Roland Monroe (Lisa) of Painted Post; Gloria Jean Keister (Fred) of Lawrenceville, Beatrice Wilson of Tioga, Susan Mundy (Daryl) of Hillsboro, NH and Barbara Hoover (David) of Kintnersville along with 21 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 19 great great- grandchildren. She is the last of a total of 15 children to James and Kathryn Carey. 

She was predeceased by her husband, parent’s, one grandchild and one great- grandson.

Jessie’s Life Tribute will begin with a visitation from 11 am to noon on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main St., Wellsboro, PA followed at noon with services officiated by Pastor Rev. Thomas Howe. Interment will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens. 

Her family suggests contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America 322 8th Ave., 7th floor, NY, NY, 10001.
