PennDOT Approves Lower Speed Limit On Rt. 155 After Comprehensive Safety Study

I have been contacted by many area residents with safety concerns regarding Route 155 North of Port Allegany. PennDOT has agreed to perform a comprehensive traffic safety study for this highway that will look at speed limits, signage and any other options to improve safety along this route. Over the years, there have been many tragic accidents in this area, and we need to do everything we can to make the roadway as safe as possible.

An important update on my earlier post about Route 155 north of Port Allegany...PennDOT officials have approved reducing the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph from near Two Mile Road to just south of Dunbar Crossing. They'll look at signage in the area next, most likely later this week.

I get passed when going 55 miles an hour on that stretch of road all the time. The people passing are going at least 65. lowering the speed limit won't help, it needs the cops to patrol it better.

I agree..changing the speed limit isn't going to help if the police dont ever patrol the area..as is the case now!!

How comprehensive was this study if Marty mentions it and the the lower speed limit is approved less than 24 hours later???

It's called clout and our representative has it along with common sense.

The passing zones in this area are very dangerous, lowering the speed limit will make no difference. The police will patrol it more once the speed limit is changed just to gain the extra revenue from those who don't notice the changes or those who just don't care but in within 6 months or so the police will go back to ignoring this area and people will start to speed though there again.

Lowering the speed limit isn't going to change anything. Stupid people can't figure out that turn signals mean slowing or stopping to turn. They are stupid at 55 they are going to be stupid at 45.

Common sense ...what to post a diffrent speed limit that will not do a dam bit of good till it's inforced. Just like everything else thats done by the goverment. Spend all this unnecessary money changing signs, when it could have been addressed with as esay as simply having the state police go over and do there jobs and enforce the 55 MPR speed limit. Clout...! Ya helped his dad get a state grant "free money" on you and i.. to build a wood pellet mill in port allegany and used no one but family members to build it. What a successful venture that was on the tax payer..clout!! If you would like to see its success...drive down pearl street in port and see for yourself. After the family got done building it, it hasn't made a single pellet and it's been a couple years.. ya thanks for you clout Martin! ! Sorry about the rant

The girl who killed this child was distracted driving. Pass some laws on cell phones!

7,46 Love your remark about the wood pellet business. I have had a feeling something was behind this man's history and hadn't heard anything. I didn't know about the Port business, I'm grateful, beyond words to finally have an answer to my questioning. Again I don't know why I didn't know about this ridiculous situation. Thanks again!

Another Republican, doing garbage business.

Drivers that want to be responsible citizens will reduce their speed maybe causing others to reduce theirs. It is worth a try. Cheaper than additional law enforcement staff.

You ever notice that where the bad accidents are at are patrolled by State Police. If they would have local guys you'd see thing slow up.
