Vandals Target Emporium Businesses

The spirit of Christmas ruined by a vandalism spree that began Thanksgiving night. Numerous unique holiday designs created by Emporium businesses tore apart or stolen. In addition the large flower pots adorning the two major intersections downtown had the greens torn out and thrown on the ground. A cement bench also moved and in the process two cracks now threaten the structure.

"Disappointment does not begin to describe my feelings," says Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak. Solak continues, "these businesses struggle to keep their doors open, due to shoppers purchasing on the internet or at big box stores, so they create an inviting atmosphere that is ruined by thugs."

Solak says she will spend the next few days collecting information from the business owners and will file a police report. "The action over the last few days makes it difficult to find volunteers and business owners willing to give time to spruce up the town. It is sad."

Very sad indeed, I read on facebook someone also vandalized Austins X-mas decorations. Sounds like some punk kids need taught a lesson they won't soon forget!

What do you expect in today’s society & culture? I’m loathe to say this, but just look at the recent election and the horrible things that the president-elect said, did and continues to do? Do you really not know that our proximity to Potter County and its Right-Wing fanatics, Ku Klux Klan members, White Nationalists, etc. has allowed their hatred to seep into Emporium and Cameron County? It’s not just a matter of a few older teenagers damaging property, it’s a growing cancer of hatred & wanton behavior that threatens to make our neighborhoods unsafe and, in the end, uninhabitable.

Really! That's the president's fault now to!! Good one.

Read the old newspapers and you will find the
same things happened. Cameras may deter some, but
most do not think and will be caught sooner or later.

95% of all crimes are solved. There are cameras in downtown Emporium. You can run but you can't hide.

Do not disrespect the good people of Potter County by association with vile groups of hatemongers because of some punks in Emporium. You need to sweep your own door step. Do you know where your children are......

They didn't say it was the president elects fault. But it's that culture that teaches kids NOT TO RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE! He was elected, although not by a majority! But he is a disgrace to US. Lying, insulting, bullying, stealing, narrow minded people fell for his PT Barnum schtick. Funnier yet? Those same folks are now facing a tax INCREASE! He lied, they believed, now they will pay more, while he pays less! Unfortunately, I had a $250,000 tax loss last year so I won't pay taxes for awhile so I don't care about his increased tax rate. Sad though that young punks think they can do this stuff, but more than likely their parents did also. Their parents are probably sitting at the gin mill laughing about it talking about making America great as they swill their Coors Light and complaining how broke they always are and can't figure out why.

There is a sign posted in the Ulysses condemning the new President elect, not by name but by reference, saying this condemnaction is by a group of women. I resent deeply this posted at a federal facility! That is not the place to condemn the wishes of the Voters! The election is Over! Time to hang together and discontinue this practice of saying, at the most, three or four women, words that are not true especially on federal facilities. Wake up accept that the rights of voters is over. Shame on this group of women trying time belittle us who know what our rights are. Take the stupid, damn sign down, realize you lost the election and grow up!

Hey 101, what about the horrible things that the loser said. No mention of that?

Anonymous said...

Not the president's fault. Agreed.. Everything that happens around here has to be twisted around and blamed on the president. This is clearly the act of a jobless Hillary supporter.

What sign in Ulysses Post Office? The one that says the community believes in love and that women's rights are human rights? Black lives matter? No human being is illegal? And a bunch of other kind and loving stuff I can't remember. Yeah, that would pretty much condemn the new president elect, because it directly opposes every word out of his mouth since he showed up on "reality tv".... lol

As an out of stator, I was impressed several years ago when I stopped at an Emporium restaurant and saw the beautiful window displays in empty(closed) businesses. What a nice effort to try and make the visual experience enjoyable rather than an empty store front.

Trying to connect this vandalism to a group or politician is ludicrous at best.

dear 426, what would you expect from a group of WOMEN in ULYSSES at a FEDERAL facility, this has liberal/democrat written all over it, not to mention complete ignorance and insecurity. just be happy you are not a participant.
What a bunch of losers.
Also, I believe there are Federal Laws prohibiting this kind of 'advertisement' on federal facilities. However that particular facility and its employees, considering the area, probably didn't know any better.

Wow listen to you all.You really, are getting all upset again talking politics. These vandals are simply, that.A bunch of non working drug addicts that come out at night looking to cause trouble. They don't work they feed off the kindness and generosity of this community.Must get bored at night and knowing every decent human being is home asleep or working they can go out and destroy things. We need more police patrol in Emporium from dusk to dawn.

This all didn't just start it has been coming for some time. People raise their kids to believe that they can do what they want without any repercussions. They can do no wrong. sad

Really, what does politics have to do with this, I agree with 8:51, this does happen in every town, I remember a few yrs back in Port Allegany when the cemetery was vandalized, it sure didn't have one thing to do with politics, drugs today will do strange things to the mind !!!!! People just need to get over the election & move on !!!! Truly sad something like this happens!

Probably the same little spoiled "BRATS" that was caught last year doing it in Emporium. GO QUESTION THEM!

So much for making Emporium Great Again!

What a bunch of goof ball's on here. I mean C'mon blaming the president elect because our American society, due to extreme liberalism, the parents[not all] do not teach their kids respect for others and others property. The young people of today bare witness to the fact that our elected officials are above the law and are not prosecuted for their crimes so how can they be expected to respect law and order. They see crime and violence everyday on tv and riots in the streets and maybe, just maybe,if the people who have disrespect for our laws had to work for a living then maybe they wouldn't have the extra time to disrespect our laws and if they themselves had their own possesions vandalized after working hard to purchase them they would think twice before causing destruction. Furthermore, part of the problem rests with the parents and children and youth services. Parents are not allowed to discipiline their children and many don't even bother because they don't want that "knock at the door" or that phone call from the school asking how and why the young person acquired those suspicious marks. The old adage of "spare the rod and spoil the child" comes into play. Granted there are parents who take it to extremes and they should be prosecuted however for too long the liberals have had their way and in so doing have created a generation of "safe space" dwellers, crème puffs, whiners, and "cupcakes" who at the first sign of typical everyday problems are incapable of dealing with them. Many in our armed forces[and May God bless them all and protect them]shake their heads in disbelief at the occurences in the homeland while they are deployed and even the generation behind the millenials laugh at the "cupcakes" as they whine and pout. I suspect, or at least I am very hopeful that for the sake of our great nation that after Jan. 20th things will change for the better with a stronger economy, more jobs and less liberal philosophy's influencing our society and our government for without hope, we have nothing and no future for our great nation.

stop pointing fingers you are right about kids learn from parents and the system that they do not matter unless they have connections Look at what politicans and business can get away with and not be punished Do you think the kids do not see this Why would young want to pay taxes when they see business and politicans and rich get all kind of loopholes so they do not have to pay for anything I am a boomer and I believe if I was facing what the young are facing I would work under the table or get on the system the way the poor or the rich are living off the taxpayer

If it isn't Obama's fault, it must be Trump's, if not them then certainly the parent's fault. No good parent ever had a mischievous teenager. 10:09 you are the goof ball...

Anonymous said...

10:09 is no more of a goof ball than yourself, children learn what they live, parents have a lot to do with their children's behavior, in today's world kids have NO RESPECT FOR ANYONE!
