Coudy Man Facing Home Improvement Fraud

By Frank Williams on WESB Local News

A contractor from Coudersport has been charged with felony home improvement fraud.

Court records say that 52 year-old Drexel Connelly was hired by a woman to do construction work at her High Street home and never performed the work.

The lady told police that she gave Connelly $5,000 for materials to jump-start the construction work and she never heard from him again after the check was cashed.

Connelly is free on $10,000 bail.

Isn`t this the guy who was running for Potter County Sheriff while he was locked up in their jail ?

Doesn't sound like an actual contractor. Should say "scam artist" in headlines instead of contractor.

He's done this for years here and in other states as well

Annnnd why do people continue to hire "contractors" who are not licensed as a home improvement contractor which all "contractors" are required by law to do so. There are a few people out there that have a full time job at a factory or another place that by themselves a hammer, a skill saw, a Kobuta, a truck with a snow plow etc and fly by night as a "contractor". Almost all don't get the PA licence, don't buy adequate insurance etc buuuuut yet consumers still continue to hire them because they are "buddies" and their work is cheap....even though their work is subpar. You get what you pay for. Most don't know the codes, the DEP regulations and the correct professional methods of the trade. So shame on all you people that hire the non professionals that are working illegally to perform work on your property. Before you hire someone look them up on attorneygeneral.gov and make sure they are licensed as required by law.

Any shmuck can get your golden license.

He's not the only scammer in the area my elderly great aunt was taken for 4000.00 dollars a few years back by a so called contractor out of coudy !

People hire non licensed contractors because the ones that do have insurance and licensing are so high priced (no fault of their own) that most people can't afford to hire them. So what is a single mom of two who got left with the house the kids and the house payment supposed to do when the roof leaks, or the driveway needs plowed?? Bitching about "people" who hire non licensed contractors solves nothing. Putting scumbags like this in jail at least keeps him off the streets for a little while.

He already knows that jail inside out!!

He is surely quite the scammer, just by his looks I certainly wouldn't hire him, people need to call around & ck these scammer out before they even pay them a down payment, I think he's the one that also stated a "gofundme" page for a lawyer to get his father's house, WHAT A JOKER HE IS !!!

I wonder where the $10k bail money came from HMMM just sayin

I think that he probably kept $1000.00 just in case he needed it for something like "getting caught" from the woman he scammed the money from. He is not totally stupid.
