Rose Pappas Foundation awards grants to support needy and disadvantaged

OLEAN, N.Y., December 29, 2016 — The Rose Pappas Foundation Fund at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation recently made possible 13 grants, totaling $2,650, to local organizations that support the needy and disadvantaged.

Betty Pappas established the fund at CRCF in 2002 after the passing of her sister, Rose, to preserve her memory by providing support to individuals facing difficult times and organizations whose services aid the needy.

The following organizations each received $200 grants to help with operations:

· Comfort House of Allegany County

· St. Michael’s Home

· Interfaith Caregivers Inc.

· Olean General Hospital Foundation

· Olean Food Pantry

· Portville Food Pantry

· HomeCare & Hospice

· St. Mary of the Angels Church (for 2016 Christmas dinner)

· Olean First Baptist Church (for 2017 Easter Dinner)

The Olean Senior Care Center and Hinsdale Food Pantry both received $300 grants. The ReHabilitation Foundation received a $100 grant.

The fund also made possible a $250 grant to the Olean General Hospital Foundation designated for the Compassionate Companion program. The program funds pastoral care for the hospitalized in order to provide comfort during some of a patient’s most trying times.

Along with annual distributions to nonprofit organizations like these ones, Ms. Pappas also recommends grants that help individuals through financial strife and medical-related difficulties.

“Betty so selflessly helps so many people in the community each year,” said CRCF Executive Director Karen Niemic Buchheit. “I never cease to be amazed at her kind heart and generous spirit.”

This year alone, the fund has made possible almost $4,400 in grants to both local organizations and struggling individuals in the community.

Donations can be made to the Rose Pappas Foundation Fund at CRCF, 301 North Union St., Suite 203, or online at cattfoundtion.org.

Established in 1994, the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation is growing good by connecting donors to the causes they care about most in the region. Grants from the foundation support many areas, including education, scholarships, health care, the arts, community development, human service, and youth development.
