BREAKING: Armed standoff in Wellsville is over

An unknown type disturbance has ended with an armed standoff near 37 South Franklin Street in the village of Wellsville.

The incident started shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday. Based on radio reports, the suspect fled the scene on foot and then possibly entered a home on Rauber Street where police believe he stole a shotgun and ammunition.

A large police response converged on Wellsville. A short time later, the suspect, believed to be in his mid 30's, was spotted with a gun behind a home (near 37 S. Franklin).

6:08 a.m.: Residents on South Main, Franklin, Rauber...shelter in place and lock doors immediately.

A CODE RED alert is being sent out to area residents near the standoff.
A specialized negotiation team has been alerted...

6:20 a.m.: Allegany County Sheriff's Office responding to assist.

7:15 a.m.: More state troopers responding to Wellsville incident

8:30 a.m.: Negotiations continue. More troopers and a K9 at scene.

9:30 a.m.: The sun is shining and talks continue.

Moments later... Suspect was taken into custody without incident. he was taken to Jones Memorial Hospital for exposure to the cold.
