What? How did this happen?

These are big machines more than 600 feet high, twice the Statute of Liberty. To 3:01 this has been written about in the local paper about 20 times. You are not too well informed if this is a suprise to you. NPDES is some kind of environmental permit I think.

On one of my farms. Clean energy. It's what all the liberals want.

I understand how people harvest a fruit farm, vegetable farm, tree farm etc. but how do you harvest a wind farm?. And do they need to use any chemicals like herbicides or insecticides? Can wind farms be 'organic'?

Look up Wind Farms, & the purpose of them.....very interesting. No chemicals are invovled, these Wind Farms are set up all over, like l said if you dont understand them, read about them for info......

For those of you who are looking for more information about this, here's a few links to the PA DEP Website. There's not much information as far as the exact location, so I assume they have spoken with a few land owners to determine plausible sites that they'll later decide on (generally large flat areas on top of hills). The application was submitted back in June, so it's been 6 months that they've been reviewing it. Before the application would have been submitted, the company would have scouted the locations first and spoken with land owners. So, this is something that's been going on for quite some time.

This is a sad day for the area!! Not only do wind turbines fail to deliver as advertised, they are a blight on the hills. This is a large out of the area corporation and few, if any, local land owners proposing this wind farm. There will be minimal local benefit for the area. No reduced electric bills. It is a shame this is being pushed through.

Poster 8.19, I am post 3.01, you stated what I was Saying about this hideous wind farm business. I am completely educated about this happenning. My remark meant, why did this happen.

People, wind energy has been developing for quite some time across the US. PA is just a little behind. It is not only drill baby drill.

Poster 3;01,
Wind farms happen because of greed and greed alone. Wind turbines are only 20% efficient and consume most of the energy they produce just to keep them running. It takes a lot of there produced power to run the Yaw motors, directional motors, blade heaters etc. This power is not metered or reported. Man can not make the wind blow. Over time man has tried to harness the wind for all kinds of things. Once something better came along, wind was abandoned. Now we are trying to use it again with the same failed results. Wind farms make people feel good, and the land owners that lease rich. Once again, greed is why these wind farms happen. (Wind farm is a cute name for industrial electric plant)

Does this mean that the Potter County Visitors Association will change its phrase to not include Untouched and Unspoiled?

I don't know about how efficient the wind turbines are, but it must take a lot of them to make power. If you travel out west, there are thousands of them in almost every western state. I recently traveled on a highway in Texas for over 15 miles, and there were wind turbines as far as the eye could see every mile. There are also thousands of them in California and in other states. I don't believe that an energy company would put the money into building all of these if there wasn't some return on their investment-just saying.

we have been coming to Potter County for 16 years, planning on retiring there. Wind turbines will destroy Potters Beauty. To the comments about there has to be a return in investments for wind turbine companies.... well the government( under Obama administration) gives subsidies to these companies. So they have nothing to lose. President elect Trump has said he will not support clean energy technology. Hopefully these companies will not get their grants. It is to my understand local government still has the power to say yes or no to theses company that are not from even Pa. JB

I figure that all of the gas wells around touched and spoiled Potter county long ago.
