First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Galeton, 1-1-2017

by Martha Pennell,

Pastor Tom and Pat Shatto extend a warm “thank you” to the congregations for the Christmas gifts and greeting cards they received; they enjoyed hearing from everyone!

Sunday, January 8th, will be a celebration for Pastor Tom and Pat’s 50th wedding anniversary. A combined worship service begins at 10 am at First Presbyterian church, followed by a luncheon for which meat and cake will be provided. Bring a dish to pass and come out to celebrate!

Annual reports are due to Robin Leach by January 23rd; First Presbyterian’s annual congregational meeting follows worship January 29th.

“Are You Ready?” was the title of Pastor Tom’s sermon for Epiphany Sunday.

Three people followed a star to bow down and worship Jesus, the perfect light. It is a journey everyone can make. What matters is we get to the light.

The apostle Paul was blinded and his eyes were opened through Ananias, seeing Jesus when he opened them (Acts 9: 17, 18). God needed Ananias to touch him. This epiphany to Paul made him understand the mystery of God through Jesus.

Pastor Tom told us we have made this journey to Jesus and keep returning daily.

The more we know who we are; the Lord has a plan and a purpose for each of us.

Look up! The stars lead us to Jesus. He brings the light. We Jesus people move forward to the possibilities his light has for us.

Open us up for all you have in store for 2017, Lord! Amen.
